I use Black Rapid straps and like them very much. Get a sling strap.

With new Nikon SLR camera came the standard nylon strap. Looking for a better new one. My old one is shot, the covering on the outside is delaminating. I liked it because it was stretchy (dense foam rubber inside with slick nylon outside) and adsorbed the shocks caused by the camera weight. But it was a bit narrow. Came with a couple of pockets for my cf cards which was handy. Don't want to spend a fortune on the new one but can spend a few bucks for one that will last. Guess you could say I want a Mercedes for the price of a VW.

Just get something about 1.25 to 2 inches wide, nylon for durability with foam-backed leather padding at the neck, for comfort. Oh, and if you care about being discrete, NO LOGOS.

I was watching Hawaii-Five-O the other night. There was a crime scene photographer using a Nikon. The film crew had blacked out the N and n in Nikon all along the strap, so it said, "iko iko iko iko". Very funny. Of course, they had also taped over the camera logos... I've done this for years, to keep people guessing.

Everyone I bought the op tech pro loop strap. Thanks again to everyone.

I was too late to post, but that's what I've been using since the F5 days. The strap that comes in the box should stay there. The Pro Loop is a wonderful strap for @ $20. I recently bought one of their utility/sling straps, but I have yet to unbox it!

OpTech has a good range of straps / slings. These are my favourites.

I have several of the same version and I'm very happy with them. I also bought the op tech "secure-its" in the highly unlikely event of a connector failing.

I too depend on my Op Tech Strap, it's helped me to continue to carry my DSLR and the lens that goes with it.
