So true, the first time i took my Canon L White lens, out
i went to a very large horse drawn carriage parade, two of the city workers working the event had a flat bed truck parked on the corner of parade route, they notice me with my gear, walked to the back of the large crowd, escorted me to the bed of the truck and helped me on the bed, every one was looking at me,i didn't tell them i had only been shooting a few months, but got some great shots.
I always wear a bright yellow hand knitted sweater that comes down to my knees with bell bottom loon pants and pink crocs. I carry my camera in a brown paper carrier bag with string handles and talk to myself in a falsetto voice.
Crowds part as if by magic and I get the prime spot to shhot from. No one talks or bothers me and kids are not allowed anywhere near me.
If I think the crowds are going to be excessive I take Rover with me. He has very violent and noisy flatulence attacks. If my outfit does not clear em out of the way then Rover's butt sure will
Isn't it amazing how knowledgeable we look with our 150-infinity lenses on our cameras? Just like heyjoe, I've had people think I was the event photographer for sporting events and been granted access to places where other folks couldn't go once the big, white Canon L lens came out! Pretty cool! The best thing to do then is say nothing, thank them and proceed to get some pretty cool shots!
Think I'll keep a cardboard replica of the big boy around my 24-70 just to keep the privilege going;)
I am getting sold. Also itching to go to the SDZoo. Haven't been there since high school. Great pix.

I've been a member of the San Diego Zoo and the Safari Park for the last three years. Between the two parks I make about 10 trips a year. Until last Friday all those trips were made with a Nikon D7000 with a 55-300mm lens. In all those trips nobody else with a camera has ever asked me a photography related question. On Friday I go to the Safari Park to shoot photos of the lion cubs with my new Sigma 150-600 Sport and Nikon D3 mounted on a tripod with gimbal mount (read big rig). Not ten minutes after setting up I have people asking me all kinds of questions from what aperture should I use on this shot (that depends) to how much did you pay for that lens (more than I could afford) to how come my camera isn't working (turned out it was a bad memory card). That's never happened to me before. It was a little strange but flattering at the same time.

I rather enjoy a completely purposeless post. The answers equally lacking in any purpose are a complete hoot.
We should reward purposeless posts!!!!

Well, if you are correct, the competition on this site would be fierce.

Well, the shots were good and plus the D7000 lets you zoom into your photo with the + key on left side. So while he was looking ( I held camera ) I zoomed in and he turned his head to me and said IT'S SHARP FOR THAT DISTANCE. Very nice feeling.

It's a very nice feeling indeed Sarge.

Thanks for the link. I missed it the other day. Great shots. Also, if the drool from looking those long lense pictures shorts out my phone, you will owe me a new phone. Hope to own a nice lense like that some day.
Keep putting away the pennies and before you know it you will have that long lens.
