Watch the video and tell me what you think. Is this guy for real, or is Sony paying him a big bunch of money? I truly don't know ... I would love to hear thoughts on this.

I shoot both Nikon and Sony.....they each serve a different purpose. I don't know about that guy, but I gotta think that sooner or later, he is going to miss his Nikon.

So you don't know? You are just stuck to Nikon for emotional reasons? I really was looking for some feedback from people that have used these cameras. Nothing is perfect, though this man makes the Sony sound perfect. He makes 10 points. Can anyone disagree with any of those points because they have had a different experience? Or could you disagree because you have used Nikon and you have a disagreement with his points about Nikon cameras?

The Nikon AW1 has a 13.2 mm x 8.8 mm CMOS sensor.

The Sony a600 has a 24.3MP APS-C Exmor APS HD CMOS Sensor.

So that is one fact that can't be disputed.

First off, the main reason I am commenting is the Nightski asked the question. I have shot Sony for years and have the A99 & the r7s. Jason states that he was not paid to do the video and that is supported by the Sony policy not to pay for individual photographer's promotion of their product.
Mirror less gives tremendously clear, crisp and tack sharp images. The full frame sensor can't be beat. There is no sense going on & on about the features and capabilities since it seems to me that most in the forum are "tried & true" skeptics. My suggestion is to pick a few days that you can spend some time shooting in a variety of settings and light; rent the r7s or the A99 and go have a blast. You are the one that has to be happy with your images when all is said & done.
I am optimistic that you will not regret the exercise and you will have made an informed decision for the cost of the rental. There are lots of good adapters out there that will let you use you current glass on a Sony mount if you choose to go that way.
Happy shooting!

dslr vs mirrorless http://www.google.com/#q=DSLR+vs+mirrorless

Like everything else, each has its own advantages and disadvantages, and like everything else, some work better for this and some for that.

I shoot Nikon...not because I think their the best cameras ever made, because my first decent camera happened to be a Nikon. All major brands are good cameras, most people buy out of brand loyalty anyway and it's the camera companies job to make you switch to their brand. I have two Nikon DSLR's with a small fortune tied up in lens, do you think I'm going to switch any time soon?...I don't think so.

Technological advances in ANY product will generally create some hard and fast followers who will sing praises all day long about the attributes of the new technology. I think that's where this guy is.

Does that mean he's not truthful? Absolutely not. He's totally enamored with the Sony units and he's evangelizing.

While I respect Sony's advances in mirrorless cameras, I'm not ready to forsake tried and true technology. The ability to look down that lens to see what you are about to capture has a lot of merit for me. The availability of glass/accessories has merit for me.

As a disclaimer, I've never held one of the Sony mirrorless units, much less shot with them. Perhaps if I did, I'd get on this guys wagon, but I like what I have and enjoy using it. Perhaps one day I won't be able to resist a switch to mirrorless, but that won't be today.

Nightski, yes , I've seen that video before.
I could easily come up with ten reason why I would switch to Nikon, then 10 reasons why I was switching back.
I could also come up with ten reasons why I won't switch to Sony.

The idea is to have 10 reasons why you shoot the camera that you shoot.
If it's because you just always have, then there's a good chance you're shooting the wrong camera. ;-)

1)Price - $650. 00 Not bad .. just sayin'

2)Weight - I can see how the more compact Sony would aid the street photographer. I'm not sure about the landscape photographer. I love the feel of my 6D. I like that it's sturdy and weather resistant when I am out in some of the worst
conditions.

3)Electronic View finder - Is the optical viewfinder more accurate than the electronic viewfinder? I can see where it would it would be great in figuring out your exposure, but I wonder if you would have sharper focusing with the optical viewfinder.

4)Tilt Screen? Pros .. Cons? I would like to hold my camera at ground level and be able to see the image in the live view without contorting myself to see what I am shooting. I don't mind laying on the ground but sometimes the space is so tight it's impossible. But again .. I dont think Sony is the only one with the tilt screen feature.

5)Focus peeking ... what about this? You can see your DOF? And zebra .. zebra sounds suspiciously like blinkies with a different interface.

6)Memory card compatibility? Okay ... this point sounds like something that I could care less about.

7)Upload to the phone. My 6D does this. It's kind of a bunch of crap that he's making it sound like only Sony does it.

8)Smart Remote ... live view from phone .. my 6D does that. I think #8 falls under #7 anyway ... kind of a bogus filler reason.

9)Cross brand compatability? Does anyone see a big benefit to this?? Sounds like he's trying to think of things to get to 10 reasons why the Sony is better than Nikon.

10)Expanded focus - Isn't this the same thing as the 5X and 10X feature in live view on the Canon full frame cameras?

Okay .. you don't have to watch the video now, Sonny .. I just laid it out for you. Let's discuss. :-)

Okay, here we go. This is what I was looking for. I have heard that Sony doesn't have anywhere near the lens selection that Nikon and Canon do. That is a really important factor to consider when picking a camera.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by the ability to look down that lens. How is it different from how you view what you are about to capture with the Sony. I'm not sure I get that.
