I'm looking for a bag to carry a Canon 70D, a Sigma 18-200mm lens and a Canon 10-18mm Lens. I have been looking hard at the Lowepro Urban Reporter 250 Camera Messenger Bag.

My question is: Has anyone had any experience with that bag and does anyone have any other suggestions. My goal is to find a bag that does not draw a lot of attention.

Thanks, in advance for all your help.

I notice in your signature that you have the 24-105 L. I suggest you take that one only. That war you won't be switching lenses and you can carry a smaller bag. A small backpack may be the way to go as the are so common in the city, and won't call attention to the fact that you are carring a camera. Just my opinion

A shoulder bag is relatively easy pickings for a snatch and grab thief. If it works for you, I suggest a slingbag. Smaller, but handier then a backpack. It can't be grabbed off your shoulder when worn properly and you can get your camera out without having to take it off or set it on the ground. I have a Lowpro Slingshot 202 which I find to be perfect for a camera and an extra lens or 2.

I agree with Boberic. Backpack. Not in a color that will stand out. Maybe Black or grey. You can pick up some foam rubber to cushion and insulate your equipment.

A camera bag says, "I have camera equipment!"

Many camera bags are quite discreet. Both of my Lowpro bags, a slingbag and a backpack, look like common backpacks.

I second the notion of very low key and nothing that saws "valuables inside." I personally use a lumbar pack and keep it in front of me. My boss had someone try to unzip his backpack that was on his back.....all in the subway in front of other preople.

Just there Dec. 10th-14th--only took a 18-200 as I did not want to change lenses. Used a holster bag and kept it in front of me. No problems at all and made it easy to get to the camera. Have fun. Rich

Also, cutting straps and grabbing is another one of their tactics

Anything can be stolen. Take reasonable precautions and go about your business. Otherwise, stay home or leave your gear at home. I've been in and out of Manhattan, and most other major US cities since the sixties and have never had an incident worth mentioning. I keep my eyes open and pay attention to what is going on around me. To me, that's far more important then what bag I have. Unfortunately, many people don't pay attention. That's what thieves look for.

i am a new yorker and take photos all the time in the city...however i don't advertise my equipment ..i usually carry my camera in something that does not scream CAMERA ...i only take the camera out when i need to shoot photos ..stay in areas where there are others taking photos..mostly people don't give a hoot about taking photos anywhere around ..but new york isn't any different than any other city ..if you go around flashing your valuables in bad areas you're going to get mugged..and not for just a camera..in fact new york is safer than you think..

I think you will find the side opening feature quite handy in the city. You just slide the bag around to your left side, unzip the flap, and pull out your camera. The rest of the bag stays secure so that nothing can fall out and nobody can reach in easily and grab something.
