I did the same last year. A helpful learning experience is YOUTUBE. Just type in setting for Ninon D7100 & the world of info. is there. Good luck.

Congratulations, I am anxiously waiting for mine to come in tomorrow, 01/09/2015. UPS says it will be here. Hope so!
I have been wanting a D7100 for about a year now.
Picked up a copy of "Nikon D7100: From Snapshots to Great Shots" by John Batdorff.
It seems to be just what I needed to study while waiting on my camera to arrive. Takes you through the controls and a lot of basics, but that is what I needed and answered a lot of my questions.
Very excited to get it delivered and start the learning curve.

Keep me posted on how you progress with yours.

Isn't it frustrating, reading a book like that without the camera sitting in front of you.

It box was really cold since our temperature drop over the last few days. I didn't want to take any chances of condensing moisture by opening the box too soon with the warm air in the house. I let it set for a few hours to warm up slowly before opening it.

Wow! What will power!

Good choice. I love mine. I would recommend "David Busch's Compact Field Guide." It's small and you can carry it in your bag - and it's very easy to use. Enjoy!

I just got mine last week...and couldn't be more pleased!

Read the manual...and then like when you get a new horse...the best way to learn is to put some miles on it...

Enjoy....

I just got the D7100 too. Moved up from a D5000. What a great difference! I watched a video on YouTube that took me through all the controls & menus...WAY better than reading the manual. Sorry, I don't have that link, but it's easy to look up. Also, I have this book by John Batdorff & I'm halfway through it. Great book! I had purchased Mastering the D 5000 & learned so much about that camera from it that I'm thinking about getting the one for the D7100. Enjoy that present to yourself! I gave my "old" camera to my husband.

Just received email notification that mine is on the UPS truck "Out for Delivery" today.

Could be a long day of waiting.....the guy usually comes in late afternoon.

I endorse this book as a great learning tool. I have one each for my D7000 and D610.

Just wanted to let you know I got my Nikon D7100, it was delivered by UPS yesterday afternoon. Makes you feel like a little kid at Christmas. I got it from B&H, ordered last Saturday evening on-line (01/03/15), delivered 01/07/15. Great service. It box was really cold since our temperature drop over the last few days. I didn't want to take any chances of condensing moisture by opening the box too soon with the warm air in the house. I let it set for a few hours to warm up slowly before opening it. I checked the contents and all is good. I am charging the battery and looking through the User Manual to get me started. I'll probably cut the learning curve down a bit by looking through the manual. I can tell already that this is going to be great.
