It's all about freedom to take photos in public places.

I am curious about how many people have been harassed for taking photos in public places?

Humm a first photo amendment. The DOJ has written a firm letter on this warning the local police that public photography is legal and they should not harass photographers. The wise street photographer carries a copy of this letter in their back pack...

CHRISTOPHER SHARP V. BALTIMORE CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT et.al

Thanks for this. I saved it. Unfortunately, this would be something a judge would read, not the cop who's harassing you. Eleven pages? Maybe even the judge wouldn't bother.

A better letter would be, "Leave him alone! He's allowed to take pictures!"

Lets all call our congressional and senate representatives and tell them that we need this.

I have - at Ellis Island - 2 years ago. I was taking pictures of the NY Skyline and the Verazzano Narrows Bridge - easily 2 miles away and was told to stop. I invited the rent-a-cop to look through the camera and see what I was photographing and he backed off.

Yep, agree with that... only photographers would read this... I did and you did and sure many did when I have posted it before....

Prior to this they probably ... Bush-Cheney era... would have water boarded you just for practice.. and/or used an army surplus tank to crush your camera.

you dont have the right to go onto land owned by the government such as a missile silo, a storage area for nukes on an air force base, any property that is concerned with the intelligence community, docks for our nuc subs etc. Also not a good idea to take photos around a domestic violence womans shelter, or a us marshals safe house. One of the problems we have in this country is we are too quick to talk about our rights, and too slow to discuss our RESPONSABILITIES

A law like the "Ansel Adams" Act would help make the difference between our rights and our responsibilities more clear cut.

Without discussing our liberties they are quickly taken away.
