As you can see, the rule of 3rd's was well demonstrated. However, I wonder if it should be applied in this case because the entirety of the sky adds to the photo in my opinion.

Yes...that was my decision and I could be wrong...it was a bit of a toss up...that's a valid comment...

Here is the opposite crop (with the bird cloned out) for comparison:

Thanks. I'm not sure I understand the 'small res' and OP thing. Is it because I chose to 'store original' that you can see it better?

One last comment about this picture now that you've uploaded the original.

The "small res" size posted in the OP does NOT do this image justice at all...

It really sings at full res and it's even more impressive seen large...

good shot...it really is.

Yes...it's because you stored the original size and I could see it very large and clear...

small res = small resolution of first post

OP = Original post.

Sorry for the short hand....

There are times when the rule of thirds needs to go out the window and, IMO, this is one of those times.
And in answer to your question, Eye4It, there is no such thing as too much color in a sunset.
Yours is gorgeous.

So much better! Thanks. That bird drove me nuts, too. I don't have any software to tweek my photos other than the Cannon and Sony software that the cameras came with. I will be investing in something soon so I can start playing around with my shots a little better.

There is another spot above the hut to the right. It's another bird way off in the distance (only when you blow it way up). Go figure.

That's funny because Sony has a pp program on the disk and I am pretty sure it can do spot healing, but I have never used it. Lol.

I had a great time watching this all change that evening. It's amazing how fast it can change.

These are SOOC. Nothing done to them!

O.K. A couple of things here. As you can see, the rule of 3rd's was well demonstrated. However, I wonder if it should be applied in this case because the entirety of the sky adds to the photo in my opinion. I would like to see what others have to say about it................

I think the first photo was done quite well but the crop by Rpavich did noticeably improve it in my opinion. Great photo, great crop. 8-)

In contrast to one of the earlier comments, I would keep the bird! I keep trying to find birds to include in m sunrises and sunsets.

Beautiful shots and #3 could easily be one to frame. I think the color adjustment needs to be made to what you like. It's your shot so it should be what you like---personally I don't think it's overdone but play with your saturation and see what you like best.......
