I'm taking a digital photography class at our community college. I'm wanting to learn more about the the camera. Where can I buy PS CS5 software that is not so expensive. This is the software that school uses. I have a pc at home.

if you are taking a class, I would see if you qualify for the student/teacher discount that adobe offers. Besides that, adobe software is like apple products, there is no "cheaper" place to get it. Adobe sets their price and it pretty much remains the same at any retailer (they do have sales but you really have to watch for them).
buy photoshop elements or lightroom...they will do pretty much anything a photographer needs...and save you lots of bucks.
i have cs5 but spend most of my time in lightroom.

Since you are not enrolled full-time, act quickly to get the student discount. I'm retired. I'm neither a teacher nor a student, so if I ever buy an upgrade, I'll have to pay full price.
You can get a good price on Photoshop, but it requires some patience.
Start out with Elements. Often, you can get it for free, bundled with products like Wacom tablets or digital cameras. Or you can buy it on sale. (Adobe usually offers 50% off Elements around Christmas time.)
Once you have Elements, wait for an upgrade offer. It might take awhile, but if you're patient, you'll get a chance to upgrade to CS5 for about $150.
But you might find Elements does everything you need, and not need an upgrade.
The school has PS CS5 software but it is only for a mac. I needing it for a pc.
Thanks

They are about to release CS6 (I think in April). If you are still in the class that long, you might want to consider waiting until it comes out. Or they might offer CS5 at a discounted rate when the new version comes out.

To upgrade or not to upgrade - always the question. I'll have to see what it has to offer.

Makes no difference what platform you are using Photoshop on, it is almost identical in MAC or PC. You just order it for what you need, it comes with 2 licenses so you can have one of each if you wish, or both for PC etc.

Never have to pay full price. If you are a student taking a class check with the bookstore, I got mine while I was taking a photoshop class at the community college. Regular price was like $649, I got it for $99+tax. Enjoy it and don't shoot the computer when you get frustrated and believe me you will get frustrated....many times.

That's good to know. What proof did you have to submit to PS?

You can only upgrade to CS5 if you have CS2, 3, or 4. You cannot upgrade from Elements. If you really want CS5 taking the student discount will be the best bet.

I got mine with my teacher ID. All you should need is your student ID to purchase it.
http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopextended.edu.htmlRight now it is going for $199.00 straight from Adobe. I think I paid around $300 a couple of years ago.
