Lightroom is on sale for $135 until March 5, however I have a special offer to also purchase Photoshop CS5 for $299 which is a great price. I do not have a preference. I understand PS is difficult but has alot of features. Can anyone tell me why I should not purchase PS or visa versa

i can't think of a reason why you would not want it. When you get cs5 you also get lightroom in the package. As well as the adobe illustrator cs5 is packed with all of there software.

I have never seem Lightroom as part of a Creative Suite; Adobe does not list it as such. Which version of CS5 do you have?
i have the teacher student edition. Adobe Creative suite 5 Design standard. I thought they all came the same way but different prices.
the upgraded version of what i have 5.5 online is 1300.00
but through the school i get a big discount. makes me glad i am a student. i can get for about a 1/3 of the cost.
That's odd. Adobe doesn't list LR as part of CS5.5 and it wasn't part of CS4. I purchased CS4 from UMD's Tech Store, but had to get LR separately.
Yes, the Teacher/Student editions are reduced pricing. The idea (I believe) is to get them into classrooms and, hopefully, the students will stay with the product (at full price) when they upgrade after school.
Did you order it direct from Adobe, physically at the school, or some other site? I'm curious - I may be looking to upgrade to CS6 + LR4 when they're released.

No i ordered it through the school store.
I have both. I found that Lightroom gives me more ability to set up folders, collections and catalogs to organize my photos into areas that interest me and my buyers. CS5 however, I use to give that photo that extra "tweek" it needs to make it a really great photo. You can move photos back and forth between the two which I find very helpful.

i like lightroom for doing most of the basic edits. I was using Adobe camera raw in cs5 but for some reason i find it more difficult to work with than lightroom, maybe it is because you have to use multiple tabs in acr than lightroom. But it much easier. and then i will move to photoshop for cropping and other fine tuning.

So if I have elements...and Nikon Transfer (that seems to organize the pictures) I think CS5 is the next step and skip lightroom. Will I miss anything in lightroom that I have to have?
I think you should provide some information about what you want to be able to do and your experience level. How much time do you want to have to put into it.
I have both pieces of software. Lightroom 3 is fairly easy-to-learn and use. Great for photographers of any level. Photoshop has a steep learning curve; requires lots of patience and discipline because it's so powerful. Both can compliment each other, depending on the assignment.

Would love to know how you can get CS for that price - I would buy that in a flash, great programme but too expensive for me at the regular price.
Personally, I think that Lightroom does a better job than the Camera Raw app that is bundled with CS5.

Can you please share where you are finding CS5 on sale for $299? that's a savings of over $330! I see that you can upgrade to CS5 for $299, but that means you already have to own CS2, 3 or 4 to qualify.
Depends on your savy in the digital environment. CS5 PhotoShop is tops in features, but if you do not have digital savy, you would still need to learn the functions of either program. Talk to someone in both evironment and learn the difficulties of the learning curve and benefits of both. Watch out for "preferences" because they are already savy and comfortable in their frame of mind....so to speak!
