Interesting choice of subjects, and excellent technique.

I found some small feathers under the bird feeder. Sharp-shinned hawks left these behind when capturing dinner. They did belong to a Junco, Cardinal, and Mourning Dove. The doves seem to be the dinner of first choice. Zerene stacker, trial version was used. The feathers are on glass that has the underside painted black.
These are wonderful and what a great idea about the glass, I'm going to have to try it. How did you like Zerene?

Hi Jambulee. I first started these using a mirror. They were interesting, but there were in my opinion too many shadow images. So the painted glass was next. Another interesting perspective is to stand the images vertically.
As far as Zrerene Stacker goes, I like it! However, my trial period ends tomorrow so I have to decide on my next step.

Well as you have undoubtedly picked up by now I love using Zerene no regrets at all.

I would love to take images like this one. What would be better--a 40mm f/2.8 or a 105mm f/?

To which picture are you referring? There are quite a few on this posting. You may like the 105mm better because you won't have to get quite as close to your subject as with the 40mm. IMHO.

I would agree: 105 is preferred for minimum working distance when shooting @ 1:1.
A couple of lilies: 250 ISO, f5.6, 1/30 shutter duration on the first & 250 ISO, f/8, 1/40 shutter duration on the second.

It was an image of a cactus plant that was round like a ball. Having looked at all the macro lenses and considering I use a D3200 because it is light weight, I have settled on the 85mm--do you think it gives the photographer sufficient working room for most subjects?
Thanks,
PAul

Read about different macro lens use here:

Hi
Did you use flash with the mushroom shot (http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-26367-1.html#391009 ). My problem is when I am in Aperture mode the exposures vary when I focus stack. I have not yet purchased a flash unit and using the pop up flash does not help.

I strongly suggest that you find proper exposure in Manual, for a single image of your subject. Once determined, use the same ISO, shutter duration, and aperture for all images to be focus-stacked.

This is correct. I would not use flash. The reason is that exposure can vary as you get closer to the subject. Too many chances of screwing up the exposure. Manual all the way here.
