I need opinions on what to say to a person who thinks he is a wonderful, creative photographer. This is the picture he took of me and my horse. I just said gee, thanks. He is always at the stable. He has a Canon and an L lens.....and he is forever taking weird angle pictures.

Am I crazy? Does anyone think this is a good picture?

I agree with the horse. He was standing in the wrong direction.

Thanks everyone. That makes me feel a lot better.

Cosmo, every photographer needs to try new things. Camera positions, angles, exposures etc. it's how we grow and improve. Maybe he has a thriving business and everybody is gaga for his DT's!
It has a very "selfie" look to it, and we know that's HUGE right now.
Just saying ;-)

Wow!! I can't think of any words that work here to say it is a nice picture.:) I would tell him his style isn't working and he needs to work on the lighting too!!!.:)

Personally, it is not something I would keep...

What to say -
My thoughts:
Tell him thanks but no thanks - you do not discuss photography when you are at the stables - that is your personal time to (fill your own stuff here)...

Maybe he wants to meet you socially.

It could be he is insecure in his skills and is looking for a friend and doesn't know/understand social etiquette.

If he persists, you might want to think about what this guy is really up to...

Just my 2ยข
The picture - well - to each his own... br Perso... (show quote)

Thank you! That is a great idea.....I ride to relax so I'll use that. I don't want to discourage him, and I'm certainly no expert.

It makes me feel like I do when I attempt to ride a horse. Very precarious. It does evoke emotion, which is, I suppose, a good thing.

I could give the person credit for trying something different, but that severely tilted horizon line in the background gives me vertigo.

Look up "Dutch angle"
That's what the tilt is called and it's done to elicit a response from the viewer.
From reading the replies, it is successful in doing that.
Not my cup of tea, but popular with some of the younger crowd.

Makes me seasick to se these rediculously out of level images. But that's just me. People like that need to stick to using the camera in their phone.

I've used this technique before with motorsports. It can be interesting; but the background at a racetrack does not have trees usually. This was a poor photo to use the technique on because the trees look like they are growing slanted. I'd have to say, not really very good. If he likes these images, then that is fine; but you don't have to agree with him. Just my two cents.

I like this image. It has compositional balance, and it offers a different perspective than the same tired images we are usually presented with by unimaginative photographers. Harkens back to the illustration style of classic action comic books.

It looks like a picture I might take - if I wasn't too old to get down that far - and I am not a good photographer. I won't even mention the Dutch Angle; it appears as if the photographer set out to do everything wrong. Maybe this is a test; if you say it's a great picture, he'll know what kind of taste you have and pick another subject to bother. I've yet to figure out whether people who take such pictures are suffering from some form of psychosis. I do believe - back to the angle - that they are unbalanced.
