Everyone here seems to LOVE Epson - - and I'm sure they do a good job - - BUT - - I have a question:
.
With the Epsons I have had - if you let them SIT for any length of time, they seemed to have a TERRIBLE problem with the inkjet NOZZLES getting clogged. And with the Epsons I had - the PRINTHEADS were NOT replaceable. I've thrown out TWO Epson printers because of this - one of which I dearly loved as it was the ONLY printer I could feed CDs and DVDs into.
.
Are Printheads USER replaceable on the higher-end Epson printers?
IF Not - Caveat Emptor !!

I try not to let these printers set to long, I run paper
through them at least once a week, but I being in the
printing business, I have never experienced this
problem  BDK

I print a lot of 13x19 on the Canon 9000 Mark II and think it does a good job. I have two of them. I use one with cheap ink and one for my photo printing with Canon ink. I started using the cheap ink then discovered it didn't give good color in photos so purchased the other one. Stay away from the larger HP. Nothing, but trouble I also had trouble with the larger Epson, but maybe they have improved them. Good Luck. Bee

I have to agree with staying away from HP. My HP printer has had more updates than any version of Windows. When a printer is downloading 2-3 updates for every 1 Windows XP update, there is a problem.

They should sit long between uses --- a week or two --- as the print heads may get dried ink in them. Under certain circumstances and depending on the printer model you may be able to clear it yourself.

Another thing to be aware of is the fact that you unnecessarily use up extra ink if you cycle the printer on and off too often as it clears the ink manifold and print heads of ink each time you do this. So try to keep the printer on all day (for longer periods of time) to prevent using up ink. This all depends on the model and so READ THE MANUAL

I got the i9900 in 2004, and I have no complaints. I use it when I want to print wide. If I ever need a new printer, I'll probably get an Epson since they seem to come highly recommended by people on this forum. I do very little photo printing, though.

I have seen photos printed on a number of printers most were very good. But I don't get the results I want to do it myself so I take to the place I have used for many years and let them do it, it saves me from pulling out my hair and it has saved a whole lot of money.....lol

My feeling exactly. If it's important enough to print, I'd rather pay a pro.

I guess I had a 'senior moment' and forgot to complete my thought - - with the Canon printers - the print-heads are EASILY removable and can be cleaned - thus removing clogged ink. If worse comes to worse - you can BUY a NEW print-head (at about 1/2 the cost of a new printer <sigh>). Epson does NOT offer this option.

i just bought the Canon 9000 mark 11 the other day.
The colors are outstanding and true to what my photos show.
I've printed out 3- 13x19 photos to give as gifts and each one was a keeper!

I used my HP officejet for all of my other print projects.

I have the Canon Pixma Pro 9500 and I can't afford to 'feed' it. Ten separate ink cartridges and they all run out at about the same time. That's $170.00 from Canon. I once bought other than Canon ink, and the cartridges leaked and were useless.

Also, if this printer sits for any amount of time, say two to three months, then I have to run the 'clean heads', align heads, and by then, whatever ink was there is used by this routine, and I have to reorder from Canon @ $170.00.

It does do beautiful prints, but the ink costs have turned this printer into an 'object d art' around my studio. I now send my print jobs out. I've found that to be much cheaper. I once read a quote where someone made the statement that printer ink was about $10,000 per gallon. I used to think doing my own printing was fun, but not at this cost.

The Epson's may be better in this regard. And I'm not bashing Canon, The printer is a very fine piece of equipment ... just very expensive for the ink.

i had ordered the set of 8 as extras for the canon 9000 pro and it came to either $93 or $98 delivered.
Its steep and since my printer is new, i have no idea as to how many photos of the 13X19 size, i will realize from the carts.

I have used Epson printers for years. The quality of the printers and photo quality is superb, if one uses the correct paper and settings. Also, one can purchase refillable ink cartridges and Epson ink online, which helps with ink cost. I utilize an Epson Workforce 610 at work and have recently purchased an Epson Artisan 837 All-in-One Printer. I purchased the Artisan at Staples "On Sale" and saved $100, and it is wireless and networkable.

I'm still not quite sold on wireless when it comes to
printing, mainly because of an interuption in the signal
to me direct line is the only way to go...just my opinion
