Whatever printing I actually do myself I do on Epson printers. I really love their technology and inks, but you HAVE TO use the branded inks, if you want colors accurate. I tried using Cannon for a while, but in the end, I much prefer Epson.

I have the Canon Pixma Pro 9500 Mk II. I'm thinking the 9000 was replaced by the 9500 and I'm pretty sure that the 9000 used 8 pigmented ink cartridges while the 9500 uses 10 dye sub inks.
I've been very happy with it, but again, I think you must use Canon ink--which is not cheap. Other brand inks will probably work, but the colors are not always accurate. It is relatively fast, but don't expect any large photo printer to churn out photos like a laser printer putting out reports. Instead of pages-per-minute expect minutes-per-page.

I have a Cannon Pixma Pro 9000, love it. Sure the ink is not cheep, but it lasts a long time and if you want good prints it sure can do the job.

Seriously consider the Epson. I personally am not happy with my Canon although I do not have the 9000. I doubt I will buy Canon again considering my old HP has superior photo quality when compared to my new Canon. The Canon was supposed to be an upgrade :(

I use several printers. I use the Stylus Photo 1400 for most prints, and it can print a 13x19 print. It uses 6 ink cartridges. I also use the Artisan 50, and the Photo 200. Both of these, as well as the 1400, are absolute workhorses and do a beautiful job. I can usually find Epson branded ink, purchased in multi units, on eBay for about the same cost as generic inks, and they are SO much better.

I print a lot of 13x19 on the Canon 9000 Mark II and think it does a good job. I have two of them. I use one with cheap ink and one for my photo printing with Canon ink. I started using the cheap ink then discovered it didn't give good color in photos so purchased the other one. Stay away from the larger HP. Nothing, but trouble I also had trouble with the larger Epson, but maybe they have improved them. Good Luck. Bee

As usual, "It depends." The more serious you are about your photographic prints, the more it's going to cost you. I read somewhere that it's pointless to have an expensive camera and a cheap printer. I had a client who loved her Epson 3000, and when it died, she went to an Epson 4000-series printer. We had some help setting it up for use with her computers (she has three she can use for production), and when she printed one of her old shots of a giraffe, she was astounded at the details she hadn't been able to see with the 3000.

I have Epson 4880. Love it. 17 inches wide, sheets or rolls, has a sheet tray and manual feed. 8 pigment inks including 3 levels of black so B&W prints are outstanding. Very good Windows and Mac drivers.

The sibling 3880 is the same paper size and ink but not so many pro features. It also has an advantage in switching between photo black ink and matte black ink. The 4880 burns a pile of dollars to switch between them.

The ink is costly but beautiful. The Epsons do have a tendency to clog jets if not used regularly. But with the same TLC you give to your camera these printers will definitely deliver the photos you remember taking.

I have used the Epson Stylus Photo Pro 1400 for a number of years now and have been very pleased with the results that I get and the comments of the people who have viewed my prints.

These printers now sell for under $200 and Epson frequently put a rebate on them to make them even more attractive.

Atlex.com I have found to be a good place to purchase these and other makers printers, ink, and paper at a reduced price. Also their service can't be beat.
