Great video - thanks for posting. If any of our ex-Navy pilots who come on here occasionally are watching, I 'm wondering: if a marine pilot enjoyed flying off carriers a lot, and was good at it, would it be feasible, or smart, for that matter, to change services and go into the navy?

There were a marine squadron of F-4's onboard (attached)
a couple of our cruises.. so yes ..the Marines do get to fly off of carriers..VMFA-333 I think was one of the shipboard squadrons

I have no clue where you got your Avitar, but that is an exact replica of my uncle "Clem". He served in WWII as a Navy Seaman First Class. Still alive, kicking, drives his own car, drink his Jack Daniels and likes to think he's still a ladies man. LOL....he's 91 years young

While in Vietnam (67-69), I believe some of the shooters used minoltas, although I not sure of the SRTs were around then. Most of he guys had Nikons or Leicas. The Canon AE-1 came out in the early 70s.

Once in a while, while firing 105s, we'd write "VC - breakfast of champions" on the casings. In 1986, Crazy Shirts, located in downtown Honolulu, came out with a T-shirt with that saying on it.

Have always been told that working on a carrier - at least on the flight deck - is one of the most, if not the most, dangerous jobs in the Navy. From my experience, life for the guys on the river boats wasn't all that pleasant either.

knew a few guys that were on the river boats the stories they told were scarey.they always made me think about the P.T boats from world war II. Carrier life was easy compared to what they had to deal with everyday.

I was in the Army. We had some of those boats, too. I never served on one myself, but I probably heard some of the same stories you did. And you're right - they did remind me of WWII era PT boats. I think the boats used in Vietnam were better constructed, though.
