UPS just brought this "little" jem today. It's cold and real windy in Chicago today but here are a few shots anyway. None have been retouched.

Nice but it gets a bit heavy after a while. It is 6 lbs. But it's crisp at 600mm. I think I'll keep it.

Hope my Manfrotto 055xProB will hold it. It should, but not in the 40mph winds we have here today.

I downloaded the flag pic, the power lines are extremely sharp, but the flagpole is off just a bit, not sure what you were focusing on exactly but the lens may be front-focusing just a little bit. I would suggest checking that and then making any AF Fine Tune adjustments needed to make it spectacular!
The water tower looks great though!

I'm going to go down to the lake. The waves have to be awesome in this wind.

MT Shooter: Could it be that the effect of wind on the flag is much greater than on the wires?

Notice I said the "flagpole". A wind-blown flag would be very hard to get sharp under any conditions. The wires are obviously closer, and sharper. Like I said, I cannot tell exactly what the AF was focusing on. I always suggest anyone check the AF function of any new lens, particularly any long telephoto lens, because the DOF on these lenses can be very shallow and if the focus is not right on the image will not be fully as sharp as it can be. Its always better to check and know than to not know and be disappointed in a lens.

I wonder how the contemporary will do against the proven Tammy.

Donb: how rugged you felt the Sports version?
Built to last?

MT: Yes you did say flagpole. The wind blown flag may also have caused vibration in the pole that isn't occurring in the wires. I agree, the real question is what is AF focusing on? I too am starting to use a 150-600 lens from Tamzilla, so I'm quite concerned about this. Thank's for putting light on the issue.

And how is the Tamron "proven"?
Most were recalled before they even sold. The supply issues have been ridiculous. The AF system is faulty and Tamron has already asked all their customers to return it for "firmware upgrades" even if you got one after it was re-leased after the recall. This is a "proven" lens? Not yet, for sure. There are still customers who have been on the "pre-order" list for the Tamron for 10 months now. Plenty of issues there no matter how you look at it.

Woah, I did not know that.
All reviews (including video ones ) that I've seen, are just praises for the Tammy 150-600mm.

*edit*
I googled again and there is not a single hit regarding the Tamron 150-600mm having a recall of any sort.
