These are all wonderful shots! I can see I need to work on my own skills; but decided to post one anyway.

Thank you Bret! I call this one, my "masterpiece"! It was blown-up to a 24"x36" and is hanging on my living room wall! And, I made a cropped version of it as my business card!
I used my Nikon 105mm f/2.8: shot at 2.8, 1/250th from approx. 8" distance!

Your first photo is actually a clear-wing moth, neither a bee nor a wasp. This moth is good size, so your image is actually a close-up, technically not a macro. It can be cropped a bit tighter, making it a macro image. It appears to be sharp, but without being able to view (download) the original size, I cannot really provide much in the way of C&C. Over all image is dark.

Your wasp is a macro, but the image is quite dark.

Your bee is also a close-up and quite dark.

I think these are nice shots. They are like portrait pics. Any idea what kind of wasp? I've never seen any that color here in Wisconsin.

As you noted, this image is back-focused (far-side of eyes). This is my biggest problem when I shoot manually. I achieve better results when I use Auto-Focus.

No auto focus lens yet in the future I will get one just finally got a 1:1 lens so I do not have to use tubes will get better when I get used to the new lens.

I obtained a Nikkor 55-mm macro lens in the early 1970s, and a Nikkor 105-mm macro several years ago. I used both manually, until I could not consistently obtain good focus. Last year I upgraded to a Nikkor 105G with A-F & VR. I am now happy again with my focus.
