Yesterday I upgraded to the A77ii from the A500. I am impressed so far.

^^^I'm jealous. :D

I'd LOVE to hear how it compares to the A65 from your perspective.

Struggling just a bit over whether to upgrade from my beloved a65 to an a77ii. I can sell the a65 (used 14 months) for $450 with two kit lenses (I have four great alpha lenses besides) and the A77ii looks like quite a camera for what amounts to $448 with vertical grip on Amazon. ($898 with grip thrown in)

One question: will EVERYTHING (including battery and remote) that works on my a65 work on the a77ii? I want
all of the new a77ii features, but don't want to have to invest much more.

First of all, GO FOR IT! I upgraded from the a77 a month ago and have no regrets. The IQ alone is worth it, with ISO 6400 roughly equivalent to 1600 on the a77, plus improvements in buffer, focus and so much more. Even the customizable sub-menu and buttons, locking main dual, and on and on, are fantastic. I'll miss the GPS, but I like the wi-fi, and I already have used it many times to upload a pic to my phone to email or share on Facebook.

Your batteries are fully compatible. I suspect your remote would be, too, but if not, a wireless remote will run you six bucks on Amazon or a wired intervalometer, about 15 bucks. Neither is a deal breaker.

Upgrade and enjoy - you'll be glad you did, I'm sure!

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I heard the $898 price & free grip is good through January 2, but I would confirm that if you aren't gonna buy it right away.

I've had my a77ii for about a month now and am still learning it, and I probably will be for a few more months, LOL! It took a couple weeks, and Friedman's book, to get my settings dialed in, still fine tuning

I was a little disappointed at first, the Sony card that came with it was s-l-o-w, so writing to it was s-l-o-w. I was having to wait for the camera to write to the card and missing shots, never had that problem with my a65. I tried a couple different cards and finally find the Sandisk Extreme Pro works best and Transcend cards lock up after 20 or 30 shots.

Default settings leave much to be desired, IMHO, unless you really enjoy PP. Personally, I'm not crazy about PP so want it as close as possible SOOC. Focusing is fast, and the extra focus points are definitely a plus, the firmware upgrade is supposed to make focusing even faster - I'll find out this weekend.

My Beercan was one of my favorite lenses on the a65 but it struggles to keep up with the a77ii (can't decide where to focus) and the CA is very pronounced at full zoom. :(
Haven't tried the 28-135 yet, I'm keeping my fingers crossed because I really love that lens.

^^^I've tried the 28-135mm on my buddy's A77II. CA is also a problem with that lens/camera combo when taking high contrast shots. ESPECIALLY with low angle lighting. :(

But I love that camera. I can't wait to get my own, even though I have free access to my friends A77II. ;)

The longer I have it, the more I like it even if I am a little disappointed to lose some of my favorite lenses. I ordered a Sony 70-300g lens, should be here Monday (thanks to a Colorado scratch ticket!).
As much as I hate giving up a few lenses, it will be nice to be able to carry only one bag when I go out...and of course, a second case with my yet to be bought 50/150-500/600 Tamron/Sigma lens (still undecided as to which one).

The 70-300mm G is a GREAT lens.

The SSM is super fast, accurate, and QUIET.

Image quality is good too, especially in the short to middle focal lengths.

It's an EXCELLENT portrait lens to BTW.

My only warning to you is this; the NEW 70-300mm GII will be released soon. :(

Of course, you could ALWAYS trade up if you like. :D

Unfortunately, it wasn't that big of a scratch ticket :(
I bought it used from Adorama.
