And the SX40 has RAW capability, and the Canon Hack Development Kit (CHDK) will allow you to access that menu.

I have one. Works well. Wish I could have bulb or open lens without hacking it.

Tomw has it right on both counts!
The SX40 is, other than having a shorter reach than the 50 and 60, an exceptional camera well worth, I'm sure you'll find, the really low price for which a refurb is now available.
