There comes a point in life when "wants" should be seriously addressed. If real obligations are already taken care of and no one will be adversely affected by this purchase, then go ahead, without guilt, and take this step that seems to be important to you. There is nothing sadder than needless regrets...so, go ahead, and don't become one of the people always saying, "I wish I had...".

I currently shoot with a 20d, love it . I have a variety of lenses , satisfied with all that. Wondering if i should buy the eos7d. Have been drooling over it for a few years . I don't make my living with the thing , not interested in video at all . Do i really need it? No , do i really want it? yes . what to do what to do ?
Any opinions will be appreciated .
I had a 20d and they have the slow sensor I upgraded to the 40 d because of the Digi 3 sensor it take picture a lot faster .I think the 7 D has the digi 4 sensor .

The 7D has actually TWO DIGIC 4 processors. It allows fast processing of the pics , even in RAW, to facilitate the work of the buffer when you shoot 8 pics per sec.

I have a 20D and a 5D MkII. I think after you have the new body in your hands, the only question that will remain is, "why did I wait so long?"

I really think it depends on your age. If you are relatively young and still working, buy really good lenses, like "L". If you are retired, go for it . . . get what you want. I am 80. Went through this last year. Bought a Canon D60 (upgrade from a D10). Also bought a new lens, Canon 18-200 IS. I'm glad I made the change. No regrets!!

I'm shooting with a 40D and I lust after a new canon body but I promised DH after my L glass purchase that I wouldn't need a new camera body until my 40D died. Doesn't mean I don't dream of a new one, but I'm trying my best not to break my promise to him.
If you already have a nice collection of glass, you feel it's time to upgrade and don't have to sell any internal body parts I would make the jump and pick up the 7D in a heart beat.
I still have the 30, 40 50, and the new 7D. The clarity of the veiwfinder is exceptional on the 7d but it is just a body. If you don't have high quality glass to mount on it, its benefits are greatly reduced.

I always have the 30 with me in the car with a zoom lens. When shooting nature, I use the 7D with a long IS telephoto for hand held, and the 50 on a tripod with an even longer lens with a remote shutter release focused on a nest. The 40 usually has a 100mm macro on it or a 70 -200 mm zoom. Old bodies don't retain value but lenses do. I'd rather have lenses mounted on an old body than have to waste time changing lenses in the field and exposing both bodies and lenses to dirt and other contaminents.

Went thru the same thought process several months ago. I was using a Canon T1i. I looked at the 7D and the 60D. Ended up going with the 60D body and saved a lot of money. Liked the big movable view finder and the rapid shutter as well as the overall layout of controls. It has video but do not use it much all though I plan to.
