I currently shoot with a 20d, love it . I have a variety of lenses , satisfied with all that. Wondering if i should buy the eos7d. Have been drooling over it for a few years . I don't make my living with the thing , not interested in video at all . Do i really need it? No , do i really want it? yes . what to do what to do ?
Any opinions will be appreciated .

I often have the problem that want overtakes need and that's why I have far more than I need or even should have considering my skill set.LOL

I was pondering a similar question, going from an XT to T1i (350D to 500D). I justified it based on the intensely better LCD on the back and Live View. You could probably justify it solely on the live view feature. Way cool for getting exact focus.

I shot with the 30D for years and last August I jumped in with both feet and went for the 5D Mark II. I love it and it took me a while to decide to go full frame sensor or not. I am glad I did! I know I won't replace this one for some time to come. I have several friends that have the 7D and they love it as well. They did not want to go full frame.

I was pondering a similar problem, but it was solved when the camera I had, died! I now have that 'fancy new' camera in hand!

Drooling over it for a few years? Go for it! Can it be "justified" as a "gift"? Valentine's Day? Birthday? Is it good to have a backup? Sure!
Good luck with your decision, Dback!

I shoot with the 7D. It is a great camera. I like the 8 fps since I do a lot of action photography. The build quality is great. Movie makers have even used the 7D for video scenes.

Just do it, you only live once. You can always sell it if you're not happy.

I too drooled for the 7D. I took my time looking for the right price. I found it on line body only for $1149. I had lens already . I am as happy as a lark. Just be careful dont buy any extras with the body they want really high prices for the xtras. Thats where they get thier profits. When you look on amazon you can set the price you want to pay. They will notify you by email when the price is close to what you pay. Dont buy over seas the camra in not in english.

Man, you sound just like me. www.cokerphotos.com I have shot all these photo with a Canon Sxi. I teach digital photography at 2 colleges and just cannot justify a 7D, but when I do decide to upgrade, (my xsi has about 70,000 exporures, I most likely will. Smile

Something to consider. All things electronic, and this certainly includes cameras, tend to follow Moore's law. It says about every two years you get a doubling of capabiltiy at half the price.

So today's offerings are on the order of sixteen times better than what was available in 2004.

I wish I had an argument like that for mechanical stuff like lenses so I could try it on my wife. My next lens purchase is likely to cost me a new refrigerator.

:-P
