Just my luck......first computer, then no internet......now the camera has bit the dust! Ugh! What a Bummer!
I feel your pain......So what are you asking?
Where I can find a good used one that's not too expensive......

Check your reputable on-line dealers. B&H, Cameta, or even E-bay.
Check out for a repair first, it maybe less than buying even a 'used' one.
Thank you English Wolf.....I am prety sure it is ready for the trash....been worked on twice before, so I guess I'll be out doing some comparing models and brands.....
You mentioned in another thread that you have a 35mm film SLR. What brand is it? If you have any good lenses for that camera, you may want to continue with that brand because the lenses could be used with a DSLR of the same make.
Not sure if the lenses from your Vivitar will mate with any current DSLRs. If they do, chances are there will be no auto focus or auto exposure controls. Maybe someone else on the board will know more.
I'm very happy with my decision to purchase a Nikon D3000 a little over a year ago. I'll probably stay with that body for a while longer and invest in additional lenses. I currently have the Nikkor 18-55mm kit zoom and a Tamron 70-300mm zoom. My next lens purchases will probably be some fast prime lenses. Possibly a 105mm for portrait work.
I am planning on buying either a Canon or Nikon....which ever one is the easiest for me to handle.....have small hands....so I have to find something comfortable for me to work with.
Despite being a Nikon owner, I'd have to say you would be well served if you chose a Canon too. Keep in mind what friends and family may have because you can then share lenses and accessories. And you may also want to rent specialty lenses from time to time and if you have someone to rent with, it becomes even more affordable.
