Those ads help support this forum, and Admin doesn't like discussions of ad-blocking software.

You've all noticed those little ad boxes that appear within the UHH daily digest emails. I'm curious as to why they seem to be geared to me. For instance, some will be from websites I've visited recently and others are from websites that are connected with the work I do. Who is controlling this? Does anybody know?
Cookies, cache, etc. These are the things people have been infuriated by for quite some time. It's akin to someone breaking into your home, listing the products you use, and then mailing adverts for those products to you.
Clear cookies and cache and you'll see an entirely different set of adverts appear, until you visit a site, any site. Suddenly the ads change.

Big Brother is right. Everything you do is in the archives, and you and all others online are under observation.

Don't you know it's a conspiracy?

There are even ways to spy on your cell phone as you walk around in public.
Thanks for all your answers. I wasn't looking for a way to remove the ads. I was just curious as to the content that appears. Obviously someone or something is keeping watch on my actions!

Delete your cookies helps.
Deleting cookies is fine, but be aware that sites won't recognize you and one you visit a site you pick up a cookie. Maybe the one you just deleted.

Look over your shoulder, you are being followed.
Actually all those cookies are watching you and passing the word on. There are some others attached via Flash player, but that is another story.

larrypayne would claim i that it is a zionist conspiracy .
I would leave them alone...UHH only gets paid when the ads are delivered. If enough people block the ads, the HOG will no longer be a viable site. Think of it as the price we pay for all we get from this place. It is so much better if you leave the ads and ignore them. It is even better if you occasionally click through on a few, as that increases revenue, even if you don't buy. Also, if you consider making purchases from an ad you get to from the HOG, the site profits even more.
It is not just the HOG. You should consider doing this foe every site you frequent. It is really the only way they support themselves and continue to deliver outstanding content. Just keeping a site up, maintained and viable costs a lot. We are only being asked to do a minimal amount and not try to actively remove money from their revenue stream.
Can we end this discussion - it has gone off topic like so many threads. I did not ask or suggest that the ads should disappear. I was only wondering how they were targeted directly to me.
