A few weeks ago, I asked for help with a fee schedule for taking pictures for a real estate firm. Well, I thought I'd tell you the outcome. I went to the site, probably took about 200 pictures which is not unreasonable for digital and the fact the house was huge, and the realtor said I'm going to pay you the fee schedule for what we pay a professional. Ok by me. She said I'll send you a check for $160. And all she wanted was about twenty pictures. I gave her 100 only because it's too simple and I enjoyed what I did. So there is the answer. I only expected fifty dollars plus gas.

There was an ad in the local paper looking for someone to work as independant contractors for an insurance company to photograph houses. They said pay was per job or a certain amount flat rate but didn't list what the flat pay was. It also stated would train but would prefer someone with building construction knowledge. That is where they get you.

I'm not sure I know what you mean. Is that good or bad? I am an amateur and feel I was given a gift as I'm retired and do this for fun. I have no training in photography but have an eye because I'm, again, an amateur artist.

We had almost the exact same ad in the local paper where I live. Wonder if it is the same company looking for people? Congrats Cindy on the successful shoot!

Thank you. It boosted my life outlook a little. Being retired, divorced and now living in an apartment, I have had to give up major gardening, koi pond maintenance, home renovation, and all the things I have cultivated through life. So then I took up photography. I can't tell you the definition of "aperture" but I know what I like. Someone took a chance on me and that felt good. I think now that I will start looking on line for a course in Photo 101. I can really use the money but don't expect to even pay the electric bill with my little cheap camera. My ego got a little bump and that was more important than anything, especially at my age (65).

Unfortionatly my insurance company hired a young kid who knew nothing about construction to go around photing houses. I am now in a fight with my insurance company because he took close-ups of two shingles missing so now they want me to put on a new roof. We had a bad wind storm two weeks before and they are already replaced. Also have some paint peeling on a side board so they now want the whole house painted before March. Who in their right mind is going to paint with 30 degree temperatures?

Unfortionatly anyone with a digital caamera can claim to be a professional. Professional what I do not know, the kid they sent to my house sure didn't know what he was doing!

That is great that they took a chance on you. I wish I had someone to take a chance on me right now. I am young and starting out and I would like to go back to college and take some photography classes, but my family doesn't want me to do that right now. Maybe the future will hold something good for me too and I can earn a living from photography or at least get paid for some of my photography. (Something else that my family doesn't believe that I can do.)

Tea8, I wish you a lot of luck. What you want to do is hard especially if you do not have anyone behind you. As I said earlier, anyone with a digital camera thinks they are a pro. It makes it very hard on those that truely are professionals!

And before those of you out there that are TRUELY professionals come jumping down my throat, nothing in that statement is meant against you! Digital has hurt the profession in many ways. I worked with a couple of pros back in the film days (yes, jimmya, real film LOL) and they earned my respect. It can be a hard bussiness to make a living at.

I will gladly stay an amerature and continue to enjoy what I can do with-out all the agravation.

Hi Tea8 i understand what you are saying i have dealt with that kind of stuff all my life. Sometimes you just have to put aside the ney Sayers and and do for yourself. There are a lot of people in life that want others to fell that gives them the ablility to say i told you show. We all succeed and we all fail from time to time but, you know what, you gave it try. If we don't take risk sometimes,
we never succeed. this is my two cents worth, and that is probably all it is worth. But good luck with what ever you decide to do.

Congratulations, Cindy. Sounds like a wonderful experience for you... you received credit, you were paid, and you enjoyed what you did. In my book, that's a great way to work! Both sides came out with respect for the other.
