What is not factored in is now, we not only pay state sales tax, but "Freight" in addition.
Local purchased State tax we pay no additional charges. Double tax. in fact, freight charges far exceed the sales tax.
It will for sure change the way I do business.
The states got flack from "mortar and bricks" stores that must charge tax. I don't like it either, but it makes it more equitable for the retailers, :-(
Amazon, and anyone else, doesn't 'charge' sales tax, they are 'collecting' for the state.
Amazon has to 'collect' state sales tax in any state they have a physical presense, such as a warehouse or fullfillment center.
So, they could go for years not having to 'collect' sales tax, then build a warehouse, and boom, gotta start collecting sales tax.

In Texas, if it is shipped and sold by Amazon it is taxed. If it is fulfilled and shipped by Amazon it is not taxed. At least that has been my experience.
If it is sold by Amazon and Taxed, then Amazon has a Distribution Center in your state- that is why they are able to collect state tax. A fulfilled order comes from whatever state that store is in and may not have a Amazon owned business in that state, so- no tax.
