I use the canon 500 ll because of the weight. Had v1 but the new one is lighter. Thought about the 600 but after careing the old 500 I went for the lightest one. Doing this almost daily you will understand how the weight will affect you back if you go all the time like I do. The sig 300-800 is a sharp lens but 12 lbs, you will need a friend or trailer to carry it around. The new canon 500ll handles the TC well .

GOOD NEWS! I did get my Sigma 150-600 Sport almost two weeks ago. I have been busy, so have not had time to really test it. I did manage to use it for a very short while right out of the box and I was impresses. Weighs 6 plus pounds and is thus in the class of my 300/2.8. To my sight and what I get on my computer screen, it seems a bit better than it's less expensive cousin at 600. So far I've only shot handheld (just got my rrs plate) and I was pleased with the OS. Not very scientific of a review, just my observations so far. It seems a keeper to me. I also have the dock and a Spyder Lens Cal on the way, so I plan to play with those to see if it may need any micro focus adjustment as has been suggested elsewhere. In just messing with this function on my D4s, I can easily see the value. I was able to, unscientifically, improve focus on two of my existing lenses just using the camera's monitor!

I have been following Kris for over a year, one of the best out there. Amazing work, I got no clue how he does it. His images are so sharp and clear, blows my mind. He states all his work is handheld. Even Tamron spotlighted him in one of there news letters.

It is a shame Nikon does not make a 400 ( OTHER than f2.8) !
Being on Canon, I would be using the 400 f4 DO with 1.4X ...... to save size and weight over the 300 2.8 with 2X - IF- I had the money to spend.....
