Are you a member of a Camera Club?

Just curious ... how many here at UHH are members of a local camera club? I'm not sure how I feel about joining one, so going to a meeting next week just to check it out.

I belong to my local one, love it. We range from p/s shooters all the way up to professional photographers. We help each other out (I met my mentor at our photo club), have monthly meetings and try to have field trips once a month. I have learned a ton from the people there and met great friends.
I say go to the meeting, you might be presently surprised. Does the club have a facebook fan page? If so join it and start "talking" the members, it will help break the ice when you walk into the first meeting (I'm shy so this helped me, lol).

@MWAC great advice! I will do just that...
I just joined a local Meetup photography group that meets 2X a month and offers workshops, outings, tutorials, & more. In fact,I for the very first time I'm exhibiting at a local library with this group. Also in my area is oldest photo society in the US. They meet every week.
I, too, am very shy but I roamed the Meetup boards to "check out" the locals and was very comfortable at first workshop.
Have fun and learn. :)

@katie mae: You must be thrilled to exhibit! It would knock my sox off if I were invited to show my photographs in public. (ok, so I post online ... somehow, not the same as live and in person eh?) Good luck!
I live in Long Beach CA, adjacent to Los Angeles and Orange County. I belong to six different
http://www.MeetUp.com photography groups within 20-miles. Each weekend, I get my choice as to which planned outing I want to attend.
I am active in only the Long Beach Digital Photography group for monthly meetings, but am known in the other groups because of my weekend participations.

@Nikonian72: Another awesome idea! I'm up in the central valley, but hopefully there are like groups here too... thanks for your input!
I belong to a local camera club, and really enjoy it. I am now the President (started in Jan.). We are going to do more outdoor activities together this year. And while we are at it, I think a nice picnic lunch, or going out to eat would also be an added bonus! ;)

Thanks AVarley! Nothing like a field trip out shooting, and a good meal to go with it. ;)

@jerryc41: that's a drag Jerry! it's so beautiful in your neck of the woods too ... maybe you should start one!?
and dont forget the picnic basket :P
Tried it, three times. Deeply unimpressed. Equipment nuts and, all too often, boring, self-important lecturers. Lots of false competition, and too many people who think there are 'rules' you can learn.
Cheers,
R.

Curious, why the @ before the names?
I've had enough of running clubs. There is a free Photoshop workshop next week, so I'll try to get to that.

That's been my impression of photo clubs - although I have never been involved with one. (Yes, I am forming an opinion based on nothing. Shame on me!) I have been in other clubs where the emphasis was on equipment and "personal importance."
