10 months is already too late for returns. And Dell will just wipe his drives and re-install the Win8.1 it came with so he loses all his photos.
Better solution is to use Acronis to recover the files and transfer them to another drive before re-installing the OS on his SSD.

Oh, the original post said "new" so I thought it was "new."

Around this forum, "NEW" is a relative term. Got to read the whole thread and between the lines around here. LOL.

If I did that, I'd be on UHH 20 hours a day and get nothing else done. I don't have time for people to understate their case with not enough information and then come back and add stuff bit by bit over the next few pages.

I bought a new Dell XPS 8700 I7 processor, 24 gig memory, ssd front end, 2 gig HD, 2 gig graphics through Costco. It ran fine until last Friday when it totally crashed. The computer attempted to fix itself for over an hour then reported it could not fix it. Blue Screen came up with some options. I called Costco because I had talked to them before I bought it and they assured me that I could come to them for support and not have to go to Dell. They had me get into diagnostics which took 5 hours to run. The diagnostics report was that no component was found bad so it must be a software problem. Today with a Costco support person we went to a Dell person and was disconnected 3 times before getting a connection that we could hardly hear. It became obvious to me and the Costco guy that the Dell guy did not know what he was doing and the Costco guy stopped the call after about an hour. He then said all he knew to do was reformat and reinstall the original W8.0 that come with it. I told him this was not satisfactory and I would call again on Tuesday and see if someone else would help.

Does anyone out there have a suggestion for me on what you would do next???

This computer is 10 months old, so return or exchange is absurd. The most cost effective method for repair would be to take it to a MICROSOFT STORE, and pay a simple $50 to $150 charge to have your OS fixed, all malicious software removed and the hardware checked out. You also get a 6 month warranty on the work so there's no down side to this solution.
