Thank you, Re. I was trying to create something with very high contrast. I think you can go too crazy sometimes with the contrast slider; but this particular shot works for me.

My assignment for myself this evening was to shoot with the 85mm f/1.8 It was overcast since it is getting ready to rain hard tomorrow. There was enough light to get some decent photos. I also took a quick shot of my assistant. The last one looks best in download.

Very nice set Ebrunner, thanks for sharing. :-D

Super-enjoyable series, Erich!

Bunker is so adorable, the b&w spillway is really interesting, the high-key leaves stunning. Great stuff!

Thanks, I've taken dozens of shots of that spillway. This was the first one that I really like. I think it was a combination of right lens and right light. It was overcast so I did not have bright sun to contend with or shadows. By boosting the contrast I managed to come up with a decent image. Thanks for looking

Thanks, Linda. The spillway shot is one of many I've taken in the past few years at the same spot. This time I had the right lens and the light was perfect for black and white. I like it to be overcast for black and white. That way I can boost the contrast on the computer and not have to deal with deep shadows or really hot spots. Bunker, of course, is always fun to have along. My wife, it turns out, is going to have to have surgery on her ankle (AT injury coming back to haunt her). So, for now, I am the sole walker for Bunker. Works out fine, though. Grab a leash, sling the camera over the shoulder and away we go.

Sorry to hear about your wife's surgery. Hope all goes well.

August issue of Outdoor Photographer magazine was devoted to b&w. Here is a link to shooting in harsh light, just as an interesting counterpoint to your interesting point about why to shoot on cloudy days :)

Thank you. Glad you liked the photos. I like the spillway and also the last one. It looks better on my monitor than it does on the website. I'm thinking of printing it with a black matte border.
