I am planning on doing a train ride. I am concerned about shooting through the glass and the speed of the train. Any suggestions?
The only one I can think of is - if the windows are dirty, forget it. But they do keep the windows in the tourists sisghtseeing trains spotless, as a rule. Amtrack, forget it.

I recently took a nine hour trip via Amtrak and shot several photos through the glass with no problems. I used sports mode and made sure the camra lens was close to the glass to avoid reflections.

Consider a collapseable rubber lens hood. place the lens hood directly on the glass which should eliminate almost all reflections. Being rubber it's flexible enough that you can change the angle you are shooting and still maintain contact with the glass.
Depending on the train, consider going between the cars and opening those 2 windows there. I've gotton many semi-interesting captures there. You probably haven't heard of the horseshoe curve in Pa. It's legionary amony train lovers.
PS - Because of the vibration plan on shooting at a very fast shutter speed.
The train windows arn't the best to take pics out of, at least the last time I took Amtrack out West back in "87". The windows were tinted blue, they came out decent.
