I need to change my service and want to go with a no contract company. I am firmly entrenched in Verizon's coverage territory, so I want to know what thoughts anyone has about who to choose.

I have been looking at Consumer Cellular, Trac Phone and Net 10. I don't mind smaller companies either.

Hi Onquest, I had Verizon but they charged me double so, after much going back and forth, I dropped them. I signed up with Consumer Cellular, got just as good coverage, was much cheaper and was satisfied. After a time, I went back to Verizon because my friends and family have it. Now, Verizon so screwed up my account, although I'm paying dearly, every time I go to use my cell phone, it tells me I have to buy minutes. Needless to say, I dread calling their CS as so often said on their FB page, Verizon sucks.

Good luck.

I went to a Walmart plan last December. Unlimited cell minutes, text and internet for $45.00 month. They also have a limited plan (think it's 1000 minutes) for $35.00 month. I also had them port my number so it is the same one I had with Verizon. In this area, Montana, they use Verizon towers. Don't really like Walmart but I no one else offers this kind of deal.

Are you with Straight Talk? I am with them currently and my phone sucks. However, the reason I'm so ticked with them is that when I was talking to the salesman I said I'd heard I can only buy Straight Talk minutes at Walmart, is that true? His response was no, you can buy them anywhere. I should have looked at his nose before I bought that line, for it surely must have been growing! I have only been able to find the minutes at Wally World and not conveniently at the checkout. Oh no. I have to go to the bowels of the store to pick them up. I hate that store!

I have Boost mobile who uses Sprint towers, so I was told. Different plans that depend upon download size. $60 for 2.5 GB a month. Unlimited everything. No Contract.

My two cents.....if you spend all day glued to your cell phone and you look like a Borg of sorts I would suggest a Cricket phone or similar.
If you don't use it a lot then Consumer Cellular or similar is best.

Verizon has a no contract program now. We just upgraded to the Galaxy 5 yesterday on the new no contract program. All we paid was the sales tax on the new phones and our bill dropped $5.00/mo. Verizon has by far the best coverage.
We did all this at the Costco kiosk.

Page Plus, through Radio Shack, uses V system, buy time and use at annual rate about same as V's monthly. But I'm not phone dependent. Just use it to make calls as NEEDED. After a year and a half, only have $110 left of the $160 purchased for 2 years. But I also use it as a phone, no games, no net surfing, none of that crap.

I used Tracfone for years. If all you want is a phone, you can't beat it. The phones go for $15 - many come with a "double minutes for life" deal. You can add time online, over the phone, or by buying a card almost anywhere. There is no monthly fee ever, and minutes ended up costing about 8 cents. So - compared to $40 per month with unlimited minutes, if you talk less than 8 hours a month, the Tracfone is a better deal... I bought the Tracfone when I moved to a rural area that had no AT&T service and it worked fine.

Did not like Tracfone, customer service was poor, phone inexpensive and cheap. You get what you pay for. Switched to Consumer Cellular and love it. (and customer service people speak clear English)

Republic Wireless gives unlimited talk text and internet for $20 or 25 per month. Gimmick is that it is a dual band phone; talks to WiFi where available, otherwise talks to Sprint towers. If no Sprint within range it works through Verizon but with restrictions.

I agree. IMHO, Verizon Wireless is still the best one out there. I also researched changing carriers. It appears that the major Third Party carriers are linked through AT & T Wireless. From what I was seeing, there were more dropped calls and issues on the AT & T network and support was not as good as Verizon. I decided to keep my Verizon. The truth of the matter is "you have to pay for what you get".

I've had the Tracfone ZTE Valet phone for 2 months and am very happy with it.
$40.00 for the phone at Walmart. No contract. I'm not a heavy user so $20.00 buys me more that I need for a month.

The Tracfone ZTE Valet™ is a 3G Android Jelly Bean candy bar with 3.5” capacitive touch screen multi touch and Google browser. Offering Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and a Qualcomm chipset enough to make your internet high-speed. ZTE Valet™ comes with a 3.0MP camera, an expandable memory including a 4GB MicroSD card. ZTE Valet™ supports GPS, browse the internet, take memorable pictures, send SMS, MMS, IM, and emails. Sold at Wal-Mart stores with no contract and unlimited data.

If you don't make that many calls, just switch your Verizon over to a prepaid plan. Verizon pre-paid is what I have and it works great, but I very seldom use my cell phone. I might spend $5 every 2 months. I can add as little as $5 by phone any time I need extra minutes, like when I travel and use the phone more.

I too am on Verizon and have been since 1993/95. Bill just keeps going up and up and the service is not that great. CS just ignores you! I go in to talk about changing phone(s) and without talking details (as if they don't have time to mess with "talk" about service, etc). I've been looking into Affinity Cellular through AAA membership offers. Any on have Affinity Cellular and if so, what's your opinion please?
I have 8 grandchildren and they love to text instead of calls!! And my 3 daughters tell me to get with it dad, flip phones are on the way out!
