I have a 18-200 Canon Lens that has a terrible case of lens creep. I did a search on this site and went and bought a lens band. That did no good.

I bought a roll of Gorilla Tape, like duct tape, but it isn't. I got black and put 3 pieces around the extended lens and presto, no lens creep.

Maybe this solution will help someone.

Sounds like a good, temporary fix. Thought about Gorilla glue? You won't ever have the problem again and you'll have a good fixed focal length lens. Just make sure you have it set to a focal length you REALLY like before you apply the final, ultimate solution.

Just kidding. :)

BTW, where are you in the Chesapeake Bay area? My son and his wife live up there.

Oops! Just read you tried the lens band...If I could delete I would...consider deleted. ;)

I totally misunderstood this topic, I thought you were referring to the Paparazzi - they are real lens creeps...

My thought was of a baseball bat, for those creeps that stand in front of you when trying to take a shot.
Or a pistol grip for your camera that is also a real pistol. Permanently removing a lens creep. ;)

I think tape is a rather drastic measure.
But when looking at lenses today at the local Best Buy, I see that Canon lenses are cheaper than Nikon. So maybe tape is acceptable for Canon creeps.
I mean Canon lens creep...

Setting up the lens band correctly will work. Half on the zoom ring the other half on the barrel, at an angle.

I have latex wrist bands on my lenses and place them over the fixed and rotating part of the lens. The friction stops lens creep. I use them on both of my 18-270 lenses and have for years.

I use the 1/2" wide rubber band from the grocery produce market found on broccoli. They come in pretty colors and I keep an extra in case one gets dried out from age. Seriously, I make sure it is in contact with both the fixed and rotating parts of the barrel of my Nikon 18-200mm. I've been through two bands in four years. Nice mileage for a freebie!

aybe this solution will help someone.[ I think lens creep is the wrong phrase for this lens(I have one also) It runs. Will the extra material from the tape draw all kinds of stuff (not the word I would normally use) into the lens?

Another solution as I had a Nikon 18-200 that had lens creep. I found one of those Livestrong rubber type bracelets (it was yellow so good for the Nikon) and put it around the lens and no more problems with lens creep.

Those are also what I use. The free part is what grabed me and they work perfectly.
