I personally don't see what all the fuss is about. It is basically a D6x0 with a tilt screen and built in wifi.

I'm getting ready to purchase a Nikon, probably a D5300. I've been reading the Hog and people are saying to wait until the new Nikons come out in September then there will be price drops in existing models. Is the D750 the only new model Nikon is going to release? Are there going to be any price drops?

It has the AF module from the D4S/D810.

I don't think the models which would be announced this month would affect the D5300 prices. The consumer-level D5300 is in a pretty steady, 1-2 year upgrade series. The expectation of announcements this month are all pro-sumer level cameras.

I think it would only apply to cameras that are close in specs. For instance, if the D7200 were to be announced, the D7100 price would probably drop. I don't think the D5300 price would likely change. But when it was announced, the price of the D5200 wend down a little. IMHO.

I don't know amehta, 51 points versus the 39 of the D600. Is that really that much of a big deal. Just more cluttering up the viewfinder if you ask me. And those will get used "how often?"
But then again, "What do I know?" J M H O!

Don, I think it depends entirely on your style of shooting as to what gets used and how often.
To some, the focus system is the ONLY thing that is important on a camera!

The build of the camera (magnesium alloy and carbon fiber) along with waterproofing and dustproofing is a nice upgrade from the D-610 as well.

I think it's more the speed of the AF system than the number of focus points. The module with 39 points (Multi-CAM 4800) is not as capable as the older 51 point module (Multi-CAM 3500FX), much less the newer one (Multi-CAM 3500FX II).

Geez, I have enough trouble with ONE focus point. With 51 I'd be like that 9 year-old girl who shot her instructor!

Do the additional focus points mean that the D750 won't have all the points compressed in the center of the viewfinder?

I don't use every point on my D7100, but I do use the out points quite a bit.

I expect that the points are still generally in the center, just like with the D800-series. Hopefully they'll spread out with the D5/D820?

People seem to say that every time a new body is announced. We move ahead by small steps, not by leaps and bounds. Compare that to a D70. I'm sticking with what I have, but for people looking to upgrade, it would be a good choice.

Nah, the processor is much faster, bigger buffer, as is a superior auto focus system, incredible low light, 60 frames per sec. movies, Wi-Fi. I think you are mistaken.

OMG - i know the price difference is a lot but once you get an FX, you really are in another world.
