Coyotes are one of my favorite animals to shoot. They are like Otters in that they always look like they are enjoying themselves. The first shot was taken in Yellowstone near the Madison River. The second shot was also in Yellowstone near the Fountain Paint Pots. The third was taken @ Antelope Island near Salt Lake City. He was sneaking through the flowers and not looking my direction. I was literally pleading for him to turn. As if he heard me, he turned towards me for about 4 shots and then was gone. All of these were with a Canon 40D and a 100/400 Lens. All on a Monopod except for the Last one which was on a towel over the rolled down car window.

I too love the looks of the coyote and I love how the colors in the first picture show how hard it can sometimes be to see one in the wild. Years ago my 65lb dog and I used to wander around a vacated gravel pit that was home to a pair of coyotes. We had several run-ins with one that would try to circle behind us presumably to hamstring Simon. Mostly we'd just get that hair-raising howl telling us to get out. Fortunately, Simon was no hero and would stay by my side at the least sign of danger.

I love how #1 is framed. the foliage in the area sets this off beautifully. # 2 deserves to be framed. I love that you compared them to otters. We should all take a lesson!

It's nice to see them looking healthy.
The ones we have here are really underfed and scrawny.
