Since the Sigma I predicted months ago is now just an announcement away from reality, I have decided to stick my neck out and make a new prediction.
Sigma has been moving towards upgrading their lens lineup to their new "Global Vision" quality, all of which so far have proven to be exemplary offerings, and the capability of adjusting many lens features to your camera, AT HOME, via the USB docking system is without rival in the industry.
I feel the next logical step for Sigma will be to upgrade two high demand lenses to this Global Vision series in the Sports category. Those would be the 24-70mm F2.8 and 70-200mm F2.8 lenses. I think both new offerings will have OS with multiple mode settings, either 82mm or 86mm filters, amazingly fast autofocus, and will top the charts in sharpness testing.
These just seem to be a logical next step based on their progressions the last 3 years. But that's just one old Montana boys opinion.
Oh, and I expect these to for Photokina 2015 or at least for CES 2016. Sure would be nice to see them for CES 2015! ;-) ;-) ;-)
Based on following your great advice to myself and others here at the Hog, I predict that your prediction will come to pass. I too, hope it's sooner rather than later...
You must have a UD crystal ball. I hope it's right on. :-D

Would love for this to happen! And yes, sooner rather than later.
MT could you explain how sigma's usb docking works. Is there a usb plug on the lens or is there an adapter that connects to the contact points? Or what?

The dock itself attaches to the lens mount of your lens to access the electronic contact array. You plug it into a USB port on your computer, download the free software from Sigma, and you can make lots of adjustments to Sigma lenses that are part of the new "Global Vision" series of lenses. You can even install lens firmware updates should they ever be needed. Its truly revolutionary in that it will allow owners to customize many of their lens controls and operations to suit your own needs right at home without sending the lens in to their service center for the work.

MT Shooter, do not get carried away with the docker because it comes with a hefty price and ties you into Sigma, a great sales move on their part. If the industry adopts the docker system, then sooner or later, a third-party will come out with one. Or better yet, your camera, whether Internet-connected or not, will have that feature.
I hope they do not upgrade the 70-200 because I bought one last winter. It is noticeably sharper than my Canon 18-200 while the new Sigma 24-105 f/4 ART lens was not.

$59 is a hefty price? For what you can do with it, I think its a real bargain!

I stand corrected. I thought it was around $450.

Do you choose the mount of the doc according to the body that you have?

Not sharper than what lens? Do you have a doc to make adjustments to your Sigma 24-105?

The Dock must match the lens mount on the lens because that is where it attaches, to the lens' bayonet mount.

From my post, "I hope they do not upgrade the 70-200 because I bought one last winter. It is noticeably sharper than my Canon 18-200 while the new Sigma 24-105 f/4 ART lens was not." The Sigma 24-105 compared to the Canon 18-200 kit lens. I sent the Sigma back to Sigma and it was as good as it gets. I think this is better than docking it myself.
The Sigma was slightly better at the edges and wide open but this was at high magnification. Under normal viewing conditions, I did not see a difference. I posted pictures with both lenses here and half the people could not see a difference while the other half saw a very slight improvement. I wonder if this due to the monitor. 8x12 prints showed no difference at all.

Sigma can only set and check the lens to their pre-determined set of standards for that particular lens. The Dock allows the PHOTOGRAPHER to tune the lens to his own camera to optimize the combination. Sigma has long offered this service for free to its customers, but it always requires you to send the lens AND the camera to them for that optimization. No longer necessary with the Dock and your home computer.

So since Sigma offers docs in Canon/Nikon mounts, can our Canon/Nikon lenses be tuned with this doc?
Sorry if I'm just completely misunderstanding this.
