I am turning to the gurus of "post processing" because I haven't a clue how to do something. A young man I work with wants an 8x10 of 6 of his friends that were KIA in Afghanistan. I don't know how to put all 6 photos onto one page. I'm not even sure this is going to work since not all the photos are the same size; I'm concerned that some might pixelate when I stretch them to fit.
He also wants their names and KIA dates on the photos. Can someone guide me through how to do all this?
The software I have are Windows photo gallery, Picasa, Elements 10 and 12.
I would really like to do this for him but I have told him that I am an extreme novice at post processing.
Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

It depends on if he wants a you to extract the friends from several pictures and make it appear if they all posed together, or if he is looking for a collage of sorts.
I have done this many times .One lady I worked with wanted all nine kids and parents put in the same photo . It turned out very nice . She gave copies to all the living members of her family at christmas . If that is what he wants , it takes a lot of practice to learn to make it look like they were all in the photo when it was taken . If he just wants each photo transfered to one new 8 by 10 , thats not to hard to do . I have photoshop cc and photoshop cc 2014 . SO I can't tell you how to do it with the programs you have , but there are many on here that use the same programs you do .Hopefully one of them will help you . If you find you can't do what he is asking . Post the photos , let us know how he wants them put into one photo , and we can do it for you .And you can let him choose the one he likes ,Tommy

Very easy to do with Picasa. Put all the photos into a special directory. Edit the photos to add the names and KIA dates onto them. Then use the Collage option, which gives quite a few choices and lots of flexibility. When done, just save the collage.
Check out this type of software.
http://www.fotor.com/features/collage.htmlCaptions can be done by taking the individual photos and using
www.faststone.org resize. There is a tab that is for text and allows you to add the names and dates.
None of the above are difficult vs the use of PS or other full edit programs.
If your friend wants them to be in one picture and appear as though they are all standing around or sitting at the same place then this is going to be quite a task, especially since the exposures, backgrounds, white-balance etc., is likely to be different with all of them. Also, you said that the images are not all the same size. I'd start with scanning all of them at the highest resolution your scanner can scan and then adjusting each and every one until you get them to all be about the same exposure and white-balance. If you are skilled enough to do this, maybe someone can help you put them all together as one image. You would also need to resize all the images to the size of the smallest one since enlarging images is where you get into trouble most of the time.

I was asked to do this sort of thing once. A guy had two sons and his own father had passed away. They never had a picture with all them.
I was given three separate images to scan and combine.
Good thing all were taken with Rembrandt lighting. Took about a week of editing to get it right and give the digital image to the wife, who was my supervisor.
She printed the image and framed it.
Her husband, a bodybuilder built like a young Arnold Schwarzenegger, cried when he got it.

If the sensitivity of the subject allows, please post the photographs here (click store original box for each one) and I'm sure many of us would be proud to show you what is possible.

This photo of his friends will sit on a KIA table at his wedding in early October. I don't have the post processing knowledge or ability to make this look professional so I am grateful to any and all of you for taking this on for me.
What he wants is the photos of these guys in 2 rows (landscape) with each persons name and KIA date. He would like it in a different font. He also wants the following quote on it:
The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.
These photos were taken off the internet. I googled each name trying to find bigger photos to work with so they would all be clear but almost all the photos I found were small. The first photo I'm attaching is the example he showed me of what he wanted. The rest will be his friends with their names. There are 7 photos on the example but one of these young men was not in his squad.
Example
PFC Marcus Tynes November 22, 2010
SFC Carlos M. Santos-Silva March 22, 2010
SGT James Nolen November 22, 2009
SPC Brenden Neenan June 7, 2010
SPC Christopher Moon July 13, 2010
SSG Edwardo Loredo June 24,2010
That would be very easy to do, but.....the file size of the pictures provided would not produce a clean 8x10.
I've used free products designed to upscale small pictures for printing--for memorial services when the only thing available was a tiny image, but I've never got really good results.
Just something to think about, wish I had more time...

Those little white lines were irritating me. Those guys deserve better.
