Hello I'm Randy H a long time lurking quite member. I had a DVD by Karl Taylor of the UK. My friend who I loaned it to accidently put it in the trash can. I know Whoops! I just recently received a new video by Will Crockett, Point,Shoot, and Share on compact cameras. $25. It's a nice video to watch, However, I must watch it a few times in order to (get it)! This new video isn't bad, I just need more!

She has offered to pay for the lost video. I'd like to ask for your help in choosing a new teaching type of video that would be very good for me to really begin to learn all of the concepts as I can!

I'm considering a book and DVD's titled 123di from a fellow named (?) Bockeart. $70.. He's tied into dpreview. This thing is broken up into starter, mid-grade, and advanced levels. It's really a lot of material. 5500 pages or more. Has any one started and finished the whole thing and what did you think of it afterwards? I really want to begin this journey of finally getting it and having my pictures show it. I have a new Panny Lumix that shoots PASM and JPEG.
Thanks so much, Randy H :D

You can't beat the book that came with your camera. Read it and play with your camera at the same time, and shoot, shoot ,shoot!

will crocket has a zillion VERY GOOD tutorials on his site. you can buy the downloads for under $20...and he has sales all the time. i have bought quite a few of his and he is a great teacher and all his stuff is worth the little he charges for it. he has stuff for every topic.

when he has those sales, the downloads are $10 to $12 bucks each.

I must disagree with your statement that you cannot beat the manual that comes with your camera. For me, at least, that is far from the truth. The manuals are not written as they used to be.
I had to buy a book for my camera and it's worth much more than I paid for it. A photographer who has writing skills wrote it and it's not only wonderful buy you really learn how to make the best of your camera.

I'm not saying that this is always the case.

I do have this 123di and altho its got a lot of things crammed in it, have only looked at it a few times.
I've had it a year- do they give you a break down on the table of contents ?
That may help you to decide.

The local library has lots of good books that explain from the very basic to the more complex. I had a book by National
Geographic that explained pretty much everything one needs to know to keep themselves busy for a lifetime. Also, what kind of photography are you most prone to shooting? By the way there are tons of pod casts and tutorials on the web for free.

For me, reading the manual should be the first item on your 'to do' list. If nothing 'gels', then spend the money on a book. This is the way I do things..

Hello and thanks to all that reply to my questions about 123di and the rest. The manual must have been written by a (?). Yes, I have looked it over. It left a lot left out. I do have one of Will Crockett DVD's point, shoot and share. A really nice dvd that for me must be watched more than once to (get it).
I saw some DVD's on Amazon by Tim Grey Video2learn. One in particular on exposure that I'm really considering buying. All of you kind folks have been very helpful. I will keep looking. I know there's something out there! Thanks, Randy H
