Could you take the pictures you want to send and then put them into a zipped folder and then attach that folder to the email? I don't know anything about gmail because I have aol, but that's how I do it. I just place all the ones I want to send into a separate folder and then send it to a compressed zip folder and attach it to the email. Then the recipient can open it.

Any photo I am going to send someone or even post here is resized to 1280x848 and then compressed within PSPro Studio by 30%. If someone wants the original HUGE file, they can ask and I'll send it some night before I go to bed.

If you want the recipient to receive the original resolution photo I would forgo the email and use something like dropbox and send a link. Otherwise, if you're just sending photos for someone to enjoy looking at, perhaps Larry's link to the other post would be helpful.

Other option: Photobucket (or some such site) has sharing capabilities.

Arphot has a good point ... I use Photobucket and you can upload files into a folder and then just email the link to the folder and the recipiant can view them as a slideshow.

No need to resize. Just handle them as you normally would and then, once they are saved etc., Open Picasa include the directory where your photos are located, select each of the you want to send, hold them in the tray with a pin located near the tray and then click the e-mail icon and what ever is in the tray will be down-sized to a practical size and off they go after you select the addressee.

This is not the way to send them, however if you are sending files to be printed. If that is the case you are stuck with sending full size files slowly.

Please don't take this as criticism, but the photos we will usually take are simply too large to consider emailing them. Email is convenient, no doubt, but it just isn't practical.

Select one of the sites (i.e. PhotoBucket, DropBox, etc.) and create an account. I know DropBox gives me 2GB of space free. I can copy my shared photos out there, then grab a link and email the link to those with whom I want to share. So much better and much more pleasing experience for the recipient.

Before I bought a digital camera, I would receive photos of the children of a friend of mine. It took forever to download and I had no idea what was wrong.
I now know that most people send a huge image and simply don't know their camera well enough to change the size inside the camera or perhaps that's not an option with their digital. The images would be great if they had billboards in mind.

I have PSP so I change the size of the image that I'm sending, but the average person doesn't have any of these programs that almost everyone here has to manipulate their images. I finally asked my friend just to stop sending a zip file. I blamed it on my hard drive so as not to hurt feelings.

Check your email program. Some have a 'send photo' feature that will 'modify' the photo to send quickly - rather than the 'send file' feature that will send the photo the way you have it saved.

The speed issue is linked more to the speed of your internet connection than the size of the files. If you are using economy DSL or god-forbid dial-up, then you must make them as small as possible to get any speed (72 DPI 4x6).

We have 6.0MBS internet here at home as anything seems slow.

Many think that high-speed internet is really high speed but in truth you get the speed you are given at the rate that you pay.

I use Gmail as well but it is limited to sending 25MG at once. Another thing to keep in mind as well is that most internet providers limit your email recipient to only receive 3 or 5MG files via email. If it is over the limit that they set then the email will be rejected and they will not receive it.

Also the slowness is prob due to your internet connection speed and your upload limit not your download speed. the upload limit is based on which service plan you have with your provider. If you want faster upload speeds then you will need to change service plans with your internet provider.

Like many have said I would upload to picasa or some other online free site that gives you free storage. Once uploaded they can download it when ever they want to.

If someone asks me for lots of photos or a RAW image then I just export them out of Light Room and burn them to a CD or DVD and snail mail it to them.

I put my photos on Zenfolio. I can organize into whatever groupings I like then send an invitation to those I want to view them, they get a link to click on to see the photos. Because all that's being sent is the is the link, it takes no time for the e- mail to be sent or opened. Unlike Flikr, there is no need for guests (those you invite) to register/ sign in.
