Thank you. I can't afford to upgrade to a larger camera at this time due to work slow down causing financial mess but when I get more work and get everything stable and can splurge, I intend to upgrade. I agree fires and scenes can be dangerous to the photographers as well. A prime example happened on this call. A firefighter on the ladder was going up the ladder with the hose on and the hose slipped from his hand and started whipping around uncontrollable until another firefighter grabbed it and got it under control again. I had to hurry up and get behind an engine so I wouldn't get hit or sprayed. Good example how things can change so fast.

Since your p[aper accepts your fire pix, you might broaden your scope and submit other newsworthy shots from around town, You might also try getting shots of club meetings; then weddings and other stuff. Then start charging...and voila ! you are a professional photographer ! ;-) ALYN

Great shot, photo guy! I also know how nice it is to have photos published. I take photos and do short stories for a website that reports on local news. I manage to get at least one story and photos on the website per week. It is super nice to see the words--story and photos by--. Keep up the great work and stay safe. (I am also a retired career firefighter and enjoy your photos. keep them coming)

An excellent imbodiment of the word "Hero". While I still wore a badge I would refrain from making the following remark, but now that I'm retired I can say it: When the sound of a loud explosion is heard, or a car bursts into flame following an accident, it's the police and fire and former / active military who run toward the event, while everyone else runs from it. This also serves as a definition of "hero".

I can't help but wonder if this firefighter is recalling certain lines from Dante as he contemplates what is in front of him.

Thank you. I will keep them coming. Just missed a fire call almost 1.5 hours ago since the dept was so fast that I couln't even get to my vehicle before it was called under control fire out. Guess if they give me guff I will just tell them again give me reds and a siren and see how fast I can get there. Last time I did that, they quit giving me guff for about 2 weeks.

I don't know what he was thinking at the time. I never asked him. Now you got me thinking that I should start to ask more questions when I am with the personnel at the stations to see what their thoughs are when they are on some of these scenes.
I do know that 3 of the personnel (1 is now retired due to medical) saved a person trapped in a house years ago and were given awards for it as the master plaque with their names, the call details, and their photo is hanging up at the main station. They don't talk about it much as I have tried to ask them about it and only 1 would talk.

How about more details of the fire?

Could the FD get a grant of some sort, probably for training, to upgrade their (your) photo equipment?

Keep up the good work!

I will be posting more photo from this fire a little later tonight after I get them resized. I will post more of the details at that time. Thanks for asking. I never thought about grants to upgrade equipment. I will run that idea past the chief. Thanks.

As a fire dept. Safety Officer I would be very upset with the fact the fireman does not have his face shield DOWN!

I do believe that he is wearing a Scott air pack, which has it's own face shield.
