What lens /lenses do you have .
In any case , don't buy. Rent and try, then make your own decision..

I have two Kit lenses that came with my camera - the
18-55, 55-200. And I also have a 50 1.8 and a 35 1.8.

Thanks.

18 to 200mm v2 on Nikon lens , is my gem in a bag! But I am afraid it is a must you carry a flash gun in your holiday bag of tricks. I'm surprised no one has mention this unless I've missed the blog, happy hols my friend from the UK

Agree with Mr PC re: Sigma 18-250. It is called the: "all for one lens". If in doubt, please go to: Youtube and search for "Sigma 18-250mm lens", where you will see a lot of test pictures and see if you like them, then decide. Also, it's cheaper for $349 on Ebay plus extras. Good luck

my main carry around lens is my 18-300. It got knocked out of my hands in St. Louis a couple of weeks ago and got seriously dinged and would not move from about 42 mm. I just got it back from today from Nikon and consider it the best $400 on a repair I have spent as I really love the lens. It is a great all around lens. I have 4 other lenses for macro and telephoto, but for just an all around carrying lens, I like this one the best.

Spend the money. Get the 2.8 24-70. Shoot 90% of my pics with it. Supplement with the Nikon 2.8 80-200 and you're golden

Debbie,
I used to live near San Francisco. Take the fastest wide angle lens you can. Telephoto lenses won't do you much good. Take a Bay cruise at night. Photograph the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco from the high hill north-west if the Golden Gate Bridge.

Pro photographers say if you have to own two (2) lenses, these two lenses are a must-have: a 24-70mm and a 70-200mm. You already owned four (5) lenses and they will absolutely serve your purpose. Don't spend money buying additional lens/es. Instead, spend your money enjoying your vacation. That said, if I were you, I will just use the 55-200mm for taking distant photos and bring along either the 55mm or 35mm lens. Both are light and will easily fit in your bag. Also, both lenses are good for street phorography and low lights. It won't take you 5 minutes to change lens when the need arises. Just my opinion.

Debbie,

Consider the Nikon 18mm-300mm or the less expensive Tamrons. Let me know if you need anything. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. Only thing is I will be shooting in Peru the latter part of September.

I snagged an open box deal ($251 delivered) on the Sigma 18-250 for my D7000 and it does a nice job for a lens with that much reach. I'm used to faster and shorter so I have to keep reminding me that it's not f2.8 and low shutter speeds at 200+ mm still equals camera shake, even with OS. But, as somebody mentioned, keep your expectations in the real zone and you'll be happy with a super zoom. Not tack sharp like a $3000 lens, but so much more flexible.

I like your opinion and it just makes sense. I really have not used my 55-200 too much until just a couple days ago so I'm going take your advice and use this lenses and ny 18-55. it really doesn't make any sense to go out
and spend money when I can get get use out of what I have already. Thank you for pointing that out!

You're very welcome! As the saying goes: "Enjoy what you have; hope for what you lack." Enjoy your vacation and bring home a lot of beautiful pictures for posterity sake!!!!
P.S. Made a couple of typos: (1) four (4) lenses not four (5) lenses, and (2)50mm lens not 55mm.
