Anyone doing anything cool with this technique ? Saw some impressive stuff on YouTube by William Curry. Just wondered if anyone played with it here. Would love to see what you have done.

I agree he is truly amazing in what he does with his pics. But you did a real nice job with yours also. I'm gonna have to try this myself soon.

It is a lot of fun. And it doesn't take a lot of fancy equipment. Just a flashlight (I think LED works best), some thing to diffuse the light I use a kleenex Alaskan uses white plastic bag I believe.) And then a long exposure to give you time to paint.

Here's one... I took it in complete darkness ,Used around 6 seconds F9 and a small maglite. I left in the small wisp of light at the top but it's easy to edit out. It's fun to experiment with light painting and long exposures...

One of our Guild competitions is "painting with light"......all kinds, it is a great summer competition when it is too hot to spend too much time shoot during the day.

Also, ideas of arranging stuff in your house, like fruit, cameras, flower arrangements....then get a small pen flashlight (make the light opening as small as possible....

here are a few from our Guild.

Make an arrangement in you home to shoot (at night), YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE IN COMPLETE DARKNESS ... again, you do not have to be in complete darkness (do a test, set your camera to 15 seconds and aperture at F/14 - shoot your subject and look at your image ..... if it is completely dark, you are ok....if there is light entering the frame, try to turning off more ambient light.)

Then set your camera to 15 seconds (helps to have a remote) fire, and take your penlite and shine on the parts you want to accentuate, play around with it and with experience and just a few attempts you will find something else to do at night when sick of TV or the NET.

...ah yes, you can do this in the day...just find a closet.

A couple I did in the back yard. The third one was on the kitchen counter with a small flash light.

HI-

Did a lot of "light painting" in Egypt, years ago. Took many photos of the Sphinx at night, , changing light emphasis each time. Lost the pix, but a lot of fun.

I did some painting with light but I got it everywhere. It was a lot of work cleaning it up with dark light remover.
