How Perceptive Are You? Lossy vs. Non-Lossy
Here's an interesting test... If you take the test, please read the instructions and the wrap-up.
This will likely not change the way you feel about RAW vs. JPG, but it's a fun test. Let me know how you do. I got 7 out of 10 correct. Not bad for an old man with glasses, huh?

I got 6 out of 10 on a new 24'' monitor and you are right it did not change but actually reinforced how I feel about RAW vs. jpegs.
I believe jpegs are just fine for 90% if not more of what most everyone (here especially) ends up doing with their images.

http://www.ranum.com/fun/lens_work/papers/jpegquality/index.htmlThe only problem with this test is that it does not address or include RAW vs JPG image files. But you have to convert the RAW file to something else eventually so this is excellent.
This link should be in bold type on the front page of this forum. Keep that link handy Please! Great find!
9 out of 10. I had a little trouble when I couldn't see her eyes.
6 outta 10. Fun & I learned something again!

I've decided to just shoot Raw. I can always convert .NEF to Jpeg as long as I have a program to do it right? Besides space, is there any setback to this?
The test I took had jpeg and png and had nothing to do with raw files.
Stef C I shoot raw because it allows me to recover blown highlights where as jpeg doesn't. Raw simply put contains more information than jpeg. The drawback is that you have to process raw files and the camera processes jpeg.
5 out of 10 and I just had my eyes examined and new lens. LOL.

You must have very good vision. I could see the difference after the test in the enlarged, but was really just guessing on most of them.

It's about lossy vs. lossless. RAW files are lossless, JPG files are lossy. I think there is some connection there, don't you?
8 out of 10. But I think maybe I was a good guesser!
10 out of 10, but I really had to look. The main difference I saw that helped me was the highlights and shadows.
5 out of 10 and i think i got lucky on the ones i guess right. so, is tiff the same thing as raw? sorry for the dumb question. it sounds like most people use raw, so i guess i'd better figure out how to use it but if tiff is the same thing, the i don't see a big difference.
