In my expreience, people want term limits because they think that getting the current "guy" out will solve anything.

The REAL solution, IMHO, is to elect the people you want at the next election....without waiting for term limits.

Again I disagree. Good luck finding people you want to see elected. While most disapprove of the current government, most incumbents will be reelected.
As long as the current system stays in place it will be greed that dictates the actions of our government.

Who would possibly want to go into public office except those on the payroll now. I guess it's a cushy job if you can get it, I couldn't take the criticism. After seeing the bashing President Obama is getting, I'd hate to see presidents in the future, they will be up for the same evil criticism. If people thought we've pried too much into the president's life, wait to see the crapstorm that's coming.

If this is true....then please tell me, what do Term Limits accomplish?

We get rid of "bad" guys and get a new crop of "bad" guys?

What did that accomplish?

We cannot just establish term limits. Congress needs to be governed by the same laws we follow. Serve your term with your 401K, and then go back to your real job. No guaranteed retirement, no forever health care, you are subject to Obamacare as are the rest of us. Do you not see this or are you just being confrontational? Most agree with this. If we don't make politics a highway to millionaire status we may actually find some who have the best interest of the majority rather than their own well being a priority. I don't see anyone in office right now who puts the public ahead of their personal gains.

Who would make that decision tho, Pilot? If it'd be like pay raises, it would be voted on by the Congress. How would the ppl put it on the ballot to be voted on by the public?

Needs to be a Constitutional Amendment. Didn't say it would be easy. Frankly, and I have been called a defeatist, I don't see a solution. We have allowed the politicians to establish a system that allows them to self procreate at the expense of the citizens of this Country. I feel bad for my grandchildren who will feel the effects of this debacle. Makes no difference if you are right, left, religious, or atheist, this Country is a mess and I see no solution to the problem unless we make some serious changes.

I agree but too many people would have to care enough to vote, where are you going to find them? Also, the country is more divided than ever before. Anyone from the left or right will be bought by big money. It has to be sponsored to be a bill to vote on.

He says that Obama should not be impeached but after his term be arrested. I guess he means, give Obama some more rope to hang himself with then have him arrested.

I've never understood why additional term limits are needed for elected offices. For example, the President gets a four year term of office; if the voters want someone out then they have a way to do that on the next election day.

However, we have some officials who are not elected. Federal Judges are appointed so the voters never have an opportunity to limit their term in office in any way. We really do need term limits for these appointed offices. I'd say a dozen years would be enough; their terms should end with no possibility of re-appointment to the same or any lower bench.

Just another thought though: Perhaps just to give voters just a little say in the matter, at the end of a term a judge could ask the voters for a second term through a vote of confidence.

The reason we have bad guys then a crop of bad guys is because it is not the guy but the party affiliation which continues. (This is both major parties.) The two parties control who gets put up for voting. They control his strings. You see the puppet get elected, but the strings are what makes him move. The strings are still there no matter what puppet you have dangling in front of the audience.

As for term limits, it at least allows temporary relief from those who have learned how to manipulate the maze. Hopefully you can elect, once in a while, someone who would upset the apple cart. Some one who has a real conscience and really means he is for the country and not strictly himself. There are such people out there. By not having term limits you have just those who know how to enrich themselves and how to run the maze because of year after year of learning.

G. Washington had a conscience and followed it, he could have been KING. But he had a conscience and didn't desire to be king, rather he stuck by his principles and wanted a free country. You can't get people of this caliber in if you don't make room. G. Washington did his duty (served his term) then gave the spot up for another to do his duty. He didn't envision life time jobs in public service.

You can claim that you can vote for the person you want. You really are only voting (choosing from the list of the party) for the person the party wants. The person who is controlled by the strings of the party. And they don't want to upset their apple cart by having to restring new people. This is why they don't want term limits.

The Federal Appeals Court just determined that the Federal Government cannot subsidize premiums for health insurance in the 34 states that did now set up exchanges. Of course the Democrats are going to blame Republican Governors for this but my take is the blame lies with those who voted for the ACA without knowing what was in the bill. As one of our least revered states people said, "we must pass it to find out what is in it. That is my Dr's definition of a stool sample
The Administration has already said the subsidies will go on. No surprise there since they have repeatedly shown they have no respect for either the Legislative or the Judicial branches. And since the AG refuses to enforce subpoenas or any other requests that may show the illegal activities of the Administration they will continue to do so.
I don't think Obama should be impeached, I think the day he hands over the keys 1600 he should be arrested for treason, tried, and put in Leavenworth for a very long time.
This is just my opinion, no name calling, just how I feel.
Most threads on UHH are opinions. Links generally come from right or left wing publications or websites whose believability is on par with a Disney animated movie.
