With slick photo gear available now, I've forgotten how much fun it was to putter around a few decades ago doing a shoot in manual mode.
I got a chance this week to wander around the garden using my old vintage lens.
There's nothing automatic, but it's still fun

These are beautiful, Pierre! The second one is especially striking, just gorgeous! Nothing wrong with manual everything, tho my aging eyes make manual focus a bit of a challenge.

Excellent work on these. I bet that second shot would make a heck of a nice poster-sized print on your wall!

Your second flower is outstanding.
I hope you take this as a helpful suggestion, but I recommend that you brighten up your final picture to give more "pop".

Here is a very slight brightening for your consideration.
It's not much, but I think it aids in your presentation.

Have fun with your manual work.

I think you've lost detail -- not much -- but that concerns me. Also, brighter in this case is a little bit too bland for the way I want to see it.

Thanks Randy. I very much appreciate your responses, good humour and positive approach.
Sandra tells me that flower is called a Cosmos. The bloom on this one is about six inches across so it's a real eye catcher.

The thing that bothers me in this modern age is that framing shops charge an arm and a leg. We could always buy frames and mats from Wally World but our printer only goes up to 8.5 to 11. In the good 'ole' days our the pro photo shops used to mount very big prints on to wood etc. with beautiful finishes. The price was right, because we photographers also had to make a buck.
All that's left now of that era is that wonderful old lens.
Sob!!!!!!!!!

Thank you Bmac.
I shot this flower (Malva) in the rain, but this great old lens picked up every little speck of moisture -- too many-- so I dumped that one and tried again.

Thank you Red Arrow.
I must ask you-- is there anyway you can send some of those beautiful dragonflies you photograph?

I was pleased with the DOF.

All are absolutely gorgeous, Pierre. I love each for different reasons but mainly because they are vividly bright colors (or white) on a very dark background which just makes them breathtaking! I still shoot M, not because I'm a control freak, but because its how I learned. and I can't unlearn :∫
