Thanks, Peanut. I like doing still lifes but they usually aren't arranged. If I see something that I like and the lighting is nice, then I shoot it. I'm not big on shooting with flash. I prefer ambient light but I'm also trying to learn using flash so that it's not so glaring. Shooting my animals and the outdoors is probably my favorite thing to shoot. I don't use any special lighting. Just whatever is there, candles, table lamps, whatever. I really need to practice shooting moving objects because I have a hard time with that. Blurry images a lot. Hey, someone should get some action shots of you flying down the highway on your bike! What do you like to shoot. I'd still like to see more pics of St. Augustine architecture.

:-P

WW - I have seen tutorials where they put a business card in front of the on camera flash to kind of bounce it so it doesn't glare so much, do you think that is what you mean?[/quote]

Hey, that's a great idea. I've been also trying things that I've been reading about like taping a piece of paper towel over the on camera flash. And it made a huge difference. It didn't cast that ugly shadow on the wall behind the subject being shot. Thanks for the suggestion. I will have to try that, too

A Day Late and please excuse but these were not shot yesterday but a while ago. These took many hours to set up and PP. I have been inspired by the Dutch Still life masters and wanted to see how close I could get to them photographically. It is quite a challenge. I'll continue to practice when I get my studio set up again.

Thank all of again for all your inspiring work keep it up,

David

I won't say anything about your photos, because there just aren't words to describe them. If I ever achieve the perfection in photography that I dream about, I still will never match what you do. Salute!!

Wow Rob you are way kind. I think Dale Carnegie said it right that what we all crave the most is appreciation. This website is very encouraging and supportive of the process we are all going thru in becoming artists with a camera. This is a great community to belong to, thanks to all of you and the Administrators for putting this together.

Sorry I'm a day late with the first pic, stacking (or merging) but I posted this on Day 17, page 9 - One dog - 5 photos. I guess I didn't explain it well enough the first time.

The 2nd photo is my attempt at still life.

Great still life! Takes a REAL photographer to include a camera in their still life pics!!

Sorry if it seems like I am copying your idea Peanut. I was stumped for a last minute idea for a still life and decided on using some of the shells we have collected over the years. One is a conk we bought at the Cleveland Home Show. The smaller ones are ones we have found ourselves on the beaches of North Carolina.

Really like the colors in this one! Usually people try for more of a 'daylight' coloring, but this really adds something that makes it a peaceful, relaxing look..

Welcome to Day 23 of our challenge. I had a request to keep it simple ... not sure if this qualifies ... but Nan this one is for you :) Still Life ... a subject of which I have zero skill so this may not be as simple as it implies. However there shouldn't be many focusing problems. So here's the idea... take anything .. doesn't matter .. (ex. an egg on a light background, some coins, food of any kind, your keys, etc.) add some ambient lighting and take the photo.
This should (in theory) help us all to learn about lighting.
At this point I am a total blank lol... This photo is not my official challenge photo .. however it was taken at the wildlife museum and it's stuffed so that's about a still as life gets I suppose :) Good luck and have some fun with it.

Don't know if this qualifies as a still life. It was certainly still, but I don't see any life in it.
