I am going to Disney World soon and obviously I want to get a lot of great pictures. Would it be worth the hassle of carrying around my big heavy Nikon D800 which gives me the best pictures or should I bring my lighter Panasonic GH3 or should I bring one of my pocket cameras such as my Sony RX100 M2 or my Olympus Stylus 1? Please help me decide! Thanks!

LOL, very funny

When people buy a camera to take photos, it amuses me when they ask if they should use it to take photos!

D800, no question about it. This is not a hike up Everest.

After 10-12 hours toting the 800 around in temperatures in the 90's it will get heavy. Unless you are going to make large prints the pocket camera makes more sense.

Gh3 or rx100 or stylus 1. Unless you are doing a job, then take the d800...otherwise spend time with your family, not behind a lens. Go light and be social it's a small world after all.

I am not asking if I should take photos. I am asking which camera should I use to take photos at Disney World?

I seem to remember a post fairly recently regarding taking photographs at Disney World and their regulations. It may be worth checking it out before making a decision.

But it's weather resistant, so when he walks under those water sprays, it will be safe. :D

I carried my 800E around Disney World last month for three days with one lens--a 28-300. It was heavy but for me the images were worth it. It is a personal decision to carry the camera or not--for me, it is worth the trouble. I will add that the 28-300 is a great travel lens for such occasions. I have many other lenses, but the 28-300 was the only lens I wanted, or needed to carry.

Yes, that is a very good all-around lens.

Small and weather resistant. If you decide on the Big One, take the smallest/sturdiest/best quality option to Orlando too, because you'll likely be wishing for it by the second day. With small, you'll have more fun and not just be your family's private photographer.

This may sound counterintuitive but it worked for us and alleviated some of my sense of obligation to produce a great Disney-trip portfolio: we bought the Disney photo package and let THEM take the set-up shots in key photo locations (with me in them, even!). I could relax and take the casual, closeup and action photos with my smallest m43 and a fast prime. We are going back this winter and will do it the same way.

Last Christmas I took both my Canon SX 50 and my Canon T3i with my 11-16mm wide angle lens. I used the SX50 everyday in the parks. The only day I packed the T3i with the wide angle lens was when we did the Osborne lights. The parks are crowded any time of year and in the summer months the heat and humidity can be exhausting as well as having an effect on your camera if it gets over heated. Not to mention the afternoon thunderstorms and occasional downpours. I would go for the lightest camera you own and leave the big one home. Some of the rides shoot photos of you during the ride and you have the option to purchase them at the end of the ride. Also as a PP suggested take the small camera and buy the Disney Photo Package. Main thing in Disney is to pack your patience, enjoy it all and have a great time.

Well there have been a couple of suggestions posted....ultimately its up to you to decide. Personally because its family time and the D800 and lenses are so expensive and I want to have fun and maybe go on some rides....I take a smaller pocket camera.

Bang or drop your D800 camera or lens you will regret it....go have fun... the point and shoots were made for that.

How high a priority is photography for the trip? If it's at the top of the list, then certainly take the D800. If it is no higher than fourth, after kids and spouse and rides, then do not take the D800 or GH3.

What are you going to be photographing? Just the family? Then the RX-100 is "sufficient", which is rarely a word used for that camera. :-) If you want to deal with a way to carry the Stylus 1, then that's a decent overall option, with the larger focal length range.

If you are going to Animal Kingdom take the D800, take my work for it.
