I have T3i and had EF-S 18-55 and EF-S 55-250 lens. I then bought 18-200 and after a while realized I only used 18-255. I took a lot of pictures long end of 200 and 250 to see what I would give up by not having the 250. I concluded not much and sold the first two lens on ebay and love the 18-200. It is great vacation and walk-around lens.

I bought the Canon 15-85 lens to replace the 18-55 kit lens. I love it. It's very versatile. It has excellent macro capabilities. I also have the 70-200 but wish I had opted for the 70-300.

I can't imagine what a "limited budget" is exactly. For the most limited budget lens I can think of is the Tamron AF 18-270mm VC lens. I have seen this lens retailing for $399.00 on sale, to $499.00. It is not a T3 lens, but made for all cropped sensor cameras. I'm sure this lens has a presence on the "used lens" market. New, this lens comes with a Tamron 6 year warranty, which is much better than Canons 1 year, no matter which lens you buy. Keep in mind, depending on your "limited budget" this lens will not compare to the photos of a Canon "L" quality lens. But, if your "limited budget" will accept the cost of a Canon EF 70-200mm f4L IS USM lens, you will be much happier with the results over the less expensive Tamrons, and Sigmas that cover such a wide range.

If I were you, I would be looking for a Sigma 17-70 2.8-4 used at KEH ......

Don't over look the fast 50, there are several to choose from depending on how much money you want to spend, but every body should have one....

Look at the Tamron 18-270mm lens. It is relatively cheap and is a very good walk around lens

People keep posting Canon as if there are specific lenses for their models.

Regarding digital OEM Canon lenses, there are only two mounts for ALL the digital bodies. They are EF and EF-S mounts.

The first is for full frame. The second is for APSc sensor or "crop" sensor bodies.

EF can be used on both bodies, with the advantage that on crop body camera's they are using a higher quality center section of the glass. EF-S should not be used on Full Frame bodies, due to the smaller Image Circle. I have heard there may be some physical problem with using EF-s on Full Frame, but only raise the point. I do not know if this is true.

In essence, your Canon T3i can use all AF Canon EF and EF-s mount lenses. There are no unique or specific lenses for your 3Ti (rebel or other number designation).

To add to this the EF lenses often perform a little better on the crop camera than they do the full frame because of the crop factor, you are getting center performance resulting from the edges being cropped off by the smaller sensor.

I shop at KEH for EX or EX+ rates lenses. I have never had any lenses that didn't seem new or as good as ...

I've read postings saying that even Keh's ugly rated lens perform quite well. Don't forget to look at cameta.com also.

My vote - - Get a Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM
Refurb from Canon or resale from KEH
Not cheap - - but an awesome lens from Canon - near "L" IQ

That is a good lens, I have one and have been very happy with it, on the crop camera it has a really fantastic focal range, compliment that with the 70-300 IS which has outstanding quality especially below 200mm and you have everything you need other than a fast 50mm or 35mm lens which I think that everyone should have in their bag.
