They look a little soft, watch your focus and distance..

Thank you for your comments. I know most macro shots are taken using a tripod, but I couldn't get the composition that I wanted on the flower shots so I was handholding the camera.
Welcome Bizzy. You are doing well with these shots. You might want to check out the True Macro forum here -
http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/s-102-1.htmlMost macro photographers here shoot handheld, I believe. I shoot mostly blossoms and the tripod is in the way more than anything. As you say, you can compose the shot you want more quickly and easily hand held.
Your shots here look to be close-ups rather than macros. Nothing wrong with that, it is just a matter of terminology and you are doing some nice work. The True Macro forum is a good resource for info and inspiration for both close up and macro photography.
Welcome to UHH and thanks for posting these images for us to see.

If the definition of macro is showing the object life size then #1,#2,#4 qualify as macro. They are as big as in the picture as the flower itself. Actually, #4 is larger in the picture than the real cosmos. I may just be misunderstanding the meaning of macro.

Yes you are! Good series. Look forward to seeing more. Pat
There is an excellent Micro/Macro section here. Go to search and type Macro and enjoy....

Actually, tripods work well for static subjects but not for mobile ones. Try to capture a bee on a flower & you will see what I mean. Look through the "True Macro" section here on UHH. You will note that most of us handhold our shots & don't normally use tripods.except for focus stacking. We all use some form of additional lighting which helps in that it allows us to stop down our aperture for increased depth of field & has the added benefit of of stopping motion (be it yours or your subjects) with the short flash duration...

I am pretty good at hand holding shots, but the closer in you get on shots like the ones in this post the more the need of a tripod.
True macro means the subject is the same size as projected on the sensor as it is in real life. Thus if your subject is 15mm long in real life, it will take up the same length on your sensor, not on an image on a monitor... This is my first post. Got a 60mm macro 2 year ago at a great price My first attempts at getting great pictures were dismal failures. I got it out again and decided to practice on getting the shots I have seen others get. After practicing for the last two month I think I am finally making some progress.
good shots! like the seashells

All very nice shots, especially the 3rd and last photos.
