I don't think that it has been established that going from a DSLR to "mirrorless" is in fact, moving up. In film days "moving up" was a change to a SLR.
"For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction". Gaining compactness and having less weight has to cost you somewhere.

Just my humble opinion . . . .

okay I understand what you're saying. But tell me why is going compact and lightweight costing something? remember back in the old days computers for huge now they are compact but they're more powerful. :)

It seems that mirror less has the potential to outperform DSLR in every way and cost less, too, but as far as I can see, we have not reached that state yet. I consider myself to be fairly serious about photography, but I will not make the switch until there is a mirror less lens lineup that can seriously compare to Canon's DSLR selection, and until someone makes a mirror less camera to outperform the Canon EOS 1DX.

I agree with Weddingguy... this is a step down, not up. These mirrorless jobs are nothing more that way over priced, highly hyped point and shoot cameras that don't even have a view finder.

Come on... a step up?

To be fair, some of the better mirrorless cameras do come with a viewfinder.

Jimmy, you are probably right, a step up maybe a little premature at this point of time. Maybe a few years down they can claim that with backup. :)

Could be but as of now I'm not interested. Good question though and one worth considering I guess.

Perhaps... I'm sure you're correct but it's not a through the lens view finder like a dslr.

Trey Ratcliffe (HDR guy) seems to be sold on them. Reckons he gets sharper pictures than previously with Nikons

I'm not a fan of electronic viewfinders, but they're better than an LCD.

He got a NEX-5 and NEX-7. Then he got the 7R, and he's looking toward the NEX-9. Most people can't afford to spend that kind of money. I tried the NEX and went back to my DSLR.
