Nice point Bcheary! I do agree with the article that once you start negotiating with terrorist over human life, that they then realize that human life is worth more to us than to them, so why not grab a few more soldiers or diplomats or journalist to use for future leverage. Politicians seem to think that this might open up future "lines of communication" and might be a good first step. You would think that some would learn that you DON'T NEGOTIATE WITH TERRORIST.

Too Islam "lines of communication" are bombs and human sacrifice for their unholy truths. When we (obama) negotiate with terrorists, we (obama) guarantee more American deaths will happen in the very near future. The politicians "good first step" will ultimately end in a bad last step for America.

It seems ironic that Bergdahl, who by most accounts is a deserter, is deemed more important than Ambassador Stevens and the three who gave their lives trying to protect the US embassy in Libya.

Are Hagel and Obama offering up any Mexican drug lords or other murderers in American prisons for Sgt Andrew Tahmooressi, whose only crime was missing his turn and entering Mexico unintentionally?

You know, you are absolutely right. For years I have been saying why did we ever join the French and British in WW2. We lost so many good Americans to provide liberty for the French and English. We should have just wiped out the Japanese and gone home. Darn us for thinking that way. Why would we ever try to provide liberty for others? God only knows, my friend.

I am coming to the conclusion that BunkoT or bunky is the Australian equivalent to our own Donna. Not really worth responding to most of the time. Why does someone whom dislikes what America does waste so much time chiming in to these blogs when in reality it is none of his business or concern. Just my impression of a down under socialist. SeeYa.

Why, yes, I have heard of a prisoner of war exchange. Normally 5 top echelon prisoners are not exchanged for a lowly enlisted man however.

Have you ever heard of the doctrine that the United States will not negotiate with terrorists? That has been a doctrine for as long as I can remember. But of course that was before we had a President Obama in office. He sort of does things his way rather than the accepted norm. He did things his way in the Solyndra scandal where we, the taxpayers lost millions of dollars. He is doing things his way regarding the upcoming EPA regulations where over 200,000 workers will lose their jobs for a miniscule (at best) bit of cleaner air.

Can you not see the danger of giving back 5 top level terrorists in exchange for one low ranking American who willingly left his post years ago. Do you not wonder just why he did that and went searching for the Taliban. Is there not even a hint of, Wait a minute here. This just doesn't seem right to me?

You know the rest of us are not ALWAYS wrong.

I worry about what happens when Bergdahl gets back into the U.S. Then we may have a walking time bomb, who is American, and able to cause a lot of mayhem and death while appearing to be a "normal" American. This is something that the U.S. has really worried about for some time and the Islamic extremists have wanted. Someone who has been turned, for lack of a better word, and can come back into the U.S. as an American with unfettered access to most of what we have access to. I hope I'm wrong on this one, but this trade has disaster written all over it.

Back in "The Old Corps", there wouldn't have been any need for Presidential authority to get a fellow Marine out of that rat hole jail in Mexico, it would have been a done deal.

All taken care of internally.

No, to never negotiate with terrorists means to NEVER negotiate with terrorists. Bergdahl being a POW has nothing to do with it. Negotiating with terrorists shows weakness on the part of our Commander in Chief. That, my friend, is yet another reason why our enemies don't fear us and our friends don't trust us.

Dennis

Agree that an enlisted man is a lower rank than an officer, but sometime more effective than an officer! Thx.

This is true! But try getting some of the higher ranks to admit that.....

besides I thought we were not supposed to make any deals with them people. I think Mr. Obama is using his "power"to do many things without letting Congress know.

I think you are correct.

Ask any front line Marine combat officer Captain (O3) or below, "who runs the Company and Platoons" and they'll tell you the Sergeants and Corporals.
