Am I understanding that you use that wire from the camera to the computer to download pix? You don't use a Card Reader?
You haven't taken the compact flash card out of the camera?
How big is the card? You don't use more than one card?
Yes.
Nikon D5100 with 8 GB card. I only use 1 card. I have never filled it up. Looking at the size of my files I could get about 270 shots shooting JPG Fine + RAW.
I know you can get a class 10 card in 32 GB if you need more. A card like that would let me put about 1100 shots on it.
I am not a professional photographer so I don't need any more capacity. In fact, I would dislike having to go through 250 plus shots after taking them. Doesn't sound like too much fun.

I wasn't paying attention and put my CF Card in sideways. While extracting it I bent (broke?) 2 pins. Unfortunately
I won't know until Tues or Weds if it is repairable. Contacted KEH & Canon for estimates. Really bad part was I got my new lens Fri nite and broke camera before I could use it. Lesson learned. Plus side: If not repairable Best Buy will let me take lens and new CF Card back. Back to using my Sony Cybershot for awhile. Darn. Just needed to vent to people who understand my pain if not my stupidity. Thanks.

So very sorry to hear of your problem and hope you can get it fixed economically. However, I am a little puzzled. Just checked my CF cards and they have a guide slot down each side that must engage with the slots in the camera. You can put the card in the wrong way round but I cannot see how it would go in sideways. if it takes too much force putting the card in something is wrong. take it out and start again.

As my friend says, never under-estimate things I can do wrong.
